ok, as some of you may know ive been having great difficulty getting the script to work. I may have to uninstall rome and start again as i had already unlocked all factions manually long before signing up to this pbem. Ive heard doing this can cause the script to fail. Anyways, can someone who has everything working please contact me on msn and talk me through the whole procedure for getting it working etc.

Ok from the beginning:
1)Install RTW, the patch it to 1.2, then to 1.3 and finally to 1.5
2)Download the file on the link above called hotseatscript.txt and put it on RTW\data\scripts\show_me
3)Edit the file RTW\data\export_descr_advice.txt by doing this:

Open Rome - Total War\data\export_descr_advice.txt

4) Unlock all factions by doing this:

You all must unlock the non playable factions so that when the quicksave gets to you, the RTW doesnt crash, you must download 2 files: descr_srat.txt and campaign_descripitions.txt

Instructions to install (IGNORE THE ONES IN THE THREAD; THEY ARE CONFUSING).

--> There are 6 files inside the zip that you downloaded:

campaign_descriptions.txt
campaign_descriptions_(Patch1.5)ORIGINAL.txt
campaign_descriptions_(Patch1.5)ALL-FACTIONS-PLAYABLE.txt

descr_strat.txt
descr_strat_(Patch1.5)ORIGINAL.txt
descr_strat_(Patch1.5)ALL-FACTIONS-PLAYABLE.txt

-->The files that you must copy are:

campaign_descriptions_(Patch1.5)ALL-FACTIONS-PLAYABLE.txt
descr_strat_(Patch1.5)ALL-FACTIONS-PLAYABLE.txt

Ignore others!

--> Copy this file into another directory like C:/rtwfiles
-after that change the name of campaign_descriptions_(Patch1.5)ALL-FACTIONS-PLAYABLE.txt to campaign_descriptions.txt;
-do the same to descr_strat_(Patch1.5)ALL-FACTIONS-PLAYABLE.txt to descr_strat.txt.

--> Copy the now called ....bla..bla..bla....to:
-campaign_descriptions.txt ---> \RTW\data\text directories and overwrite
-descr_strat.txt -->RTW\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign
and overwrite

--> Before running the quicksave for your turn try playing the campaign for your faction on imperial campaign first just to make sure that RTW doesnt crashes.

Warning: Unlocking factions on RTW vanilla 1.5 only works with this files, all other previous manners, mods or files wont work!

5) Are you running a crack version of the game (a copy) ? If YES email me for its forum policy not to be talking of these matters. If NOT just run the game.


7) If after all this the game still doesnt lauch, try copying an export_descr_advice.txt from an RTW vanilla 1.0 or 1.2 and then editing it like in step 3). If this alos doesnt work try copying my export_descr_advice.txt that i have on the link above.

If i uninstall my current rtw, which i believe is causing the problem, will it affect my bi in any adverse way before i reinstall it?

lol, you have BI installed?, well if you unnistall RTW it will affect BI alright, you wont have BI anymore, make an RTW installation for this game then just copy the RTW directory to another directory and install BI later on the other RTW..for example i have 3 RTW´s in my pc, one for this RTW 1.5, other RTR mod and other SPQR mod...

OK here is a foolproof way to make it work.

Unistall everything.

Re-install everything. (RTW and BI)

Patch up to 1.5/1.6.

Take care of script as shown above.

Get quicksave in save folder.

Start game.

Run script.

Play Turn.

End Turn.

Exit.

Upload save on totalwar.org uploader.

It doesnt seem like im ever going to get to play this. I cant even reinstall bi now. In order to start fresh I completely removed rtw/bi, i then reinstalled rtw, so far so good, i then started to reinstall bi and i get this message

afterwards for some reason rtw then starts to uninstall.

ok ignore my previous post, ive got pretty much everything sorted. However, RICKFGS, the link you posted to download the patch to unlock all factions does not work. Do you have another link?

The link on your heavengames site doesnt work any more. I havent been able to figure all of this out yet, if I dont I think i will withdraw from the campaign.

If your referring to the link for the update to unlock all factions, go to heaven games, then to downloads, then select the mod packs(i think that is what it is called) section and download the rtw uncut

Also, the redundancy cycle errors occur because you already have files equal in your hardrive to the ones you are installing, but i guess you´ve figured this out beacuse you´ve played your turn.

Sorry, Wishazu, I guess I just got a bit annoyed because this thing is taking so long, I mean it's almost a week since my turn (I think) and we have only got through 2 players since then. It will probably speed up once everyone's got the scripts sorted though. It's obviously not your fault but I didn't know that then.

ermm... I know you guys are probably sick of hearing this but I have another problem. I just now tried to load up RTW, this is the first attempt to load it since I passed my quicksave on to Awesome Archer and guess what, RTW no longer loads up :( Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a fix?

yep. it hapened to me....try getting a new export_descr_advice (copy it directly from the cd or image of the game) and re-editing it again, it should do the trick
