    Default Pick pocketers

One way of preventing yourself from being pickpocketed is never put your wallet in your back pocket and only in your front pocket.

That´s what I do on parties but not usually.
I touch it with my finger sometimes though because I like touching my...eh I mean because it reminds me of it being there and that makes it more likely that I will feel it when it is being stolen and any potential thief may see that I am aware of it. Not 100% security but then I usually don´t carry much money and the rest can be replaced.

Pickpocketers are generally very sneaky, so its nearly impossible to protect yourself from them.

My wallet is always in my front pocket, with a rubber band around it - now. It wasn't always so.

I've had my pocket picked 4 times over the last 30 years. The first time, in a train station in Naples, Italy - I think. My wallet was in my inside jacket pocket. The second time, while in line getting a beer at a ballgame - I think. My wallet was in my back pocket and I was wearing jeans. The third time, I was also wearing jeans with my wallet in my back pcket; but I have no idea when it happened. The last time was in a train station in Chicago. I had my wallet in my front pocket with a rubber band around it and the pickpocket ended up on the ground in front of me. I accidentally kicked him in the side of the head twice, once while retrieving my wallet after he went down and a second time right before the station police arrived.

    I'm so clumsy.

Why would anyone want to put it in the back pocket is a mystery to me. Your bum gets uncomfortable when you choose to sit and it's a pickpocket-magnet.

I haven't been pickpocketed, I think. I have lost a wallet once, might have been a pickpocket but I'm not sure. Only had $20 in it anyway, which is less than USD3. One time I think it would have been a pickpocket was when I fell asleep with my GameBoy in the pocket facing the aisle on a minibus, and wasn't there when I woke up.

No I do NOT play the GameBoy now

    That's quite impressive actually

I haven't been pickpocketed yet, and I hope it won't happen, I have way too much stuff in my wallet that would need to be replaced. I normally don't walk around with more than 50€ so I wouldn't even mind losing the money as much...

I once saw some movie about someone who learned it, was a famous actor IIRC. The way they would steal it out of your jacket was to disturb you by holding a newspaper in front of your face or so and taking it out of your jacket pocket in a split of a second, that´s why one might want to actually close the jacket when the wallet is in there.

A friend from school once told me he came out of a club/bar late at night and three guys approached him, when one wanted to take his wallet, he pushed the hand away and got knocked down immediately. Apparently they left him his wallet afterwards...

Are you talking about Harry in Your Pocket? Not a bad movie, really, for 1973. I've seen it many times on TV. Has more than one movie star in it. James Coburn leads the gang of pick pockets, which includes a very old Walter Pidgeon (one of the greats), and a very young couple of novices played by Michael Sarrazin and Trish Van Devere (whose only real claim to fame was marrying George C. Scott).

If I carry a lot of cash I only put a small amount of it in a wallet. Never had any troubles with pickpockets so far.

Nope, no problems so far. I was once kindly asked to hand over some money by a guy waving a knife in my face...Needless to say, the whole episode ended with a broken nose and a lot of pain in my knuckles.

Where I live I can just put it everywhere I want.. no one has ever tried stealing on me an I doubt anyone ever will here.

I was in Rome last week, and over there of course pick pocketeers are active. They actually tried me as well.. but nothing was in the pocket anyway.. little later one was seen with someone's camera in his hand, but it was still attached to the owner's trousers.. so they started arguing. he almost got hit by a screwdriver when the guy took revenge for not stealing on him ( ) all ended well luckily..

    Get in there

It’s a mystery to me how anyone can get there pocket picked and not realize it, because I can always feel the weight in my pocket.

Well, when the incident in my above post happened.. it was in a bus. it was totally packed full, so I was acutually expecting it to happen. so I focused on my pockets, and closely watched my bag, in which was my wallet etc. so I did notice when a hand entered my (empty) pocket. did not do anything to stop the guy sadly.. I think it was out of fear that I just couldn't think straigt and just stood there in stead of warn people and hit the (bad-smelling, on a side note) guy in the face... :(
