    Default Walls of COnstantinople

    I love Google Earth!

After 1400 years the walls are still there but sadly disfigured and neglected :(

Here are a few pics of the fortifications

As you can see, the triple walls are still there.

Wow, what a shame they are neglected though

I have the Osprey book regarding these.

I hope that along with my trip to Greece I can visit Constantinople again, to see the mighty walls, and remember the courage and sacrifice made by Konstantinos XI Paleiologos.
Ja mata, TosaInu. You will forever be remembered.

    Been to:

Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.

A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?

They have been doing low-intensity preservation projects regarding the Theodosian Walls for ten-twenty years now. No major things, but it's a start.

Oh, and edyz, good luck with that -- the gate where Constantine supposedly fell (I believe it was Military Gate 5) is now crossed by a busy thoroughfare. You're best off visiting Yedikule, otherwise known as the famous Golden Gate. Other good ones are nearer to the sea (better preservation and less modern construction), and the Palace of the Porphorygenitos in what was once Blachernae.
