    Default Campain map MP

well lately i started to come back to the old game warcraft 3 in the multiplayer and came up in a costum game which i never saw before that called medival nations. the metagame is like rome ... but a simpler version. you start up with spots which are like cities and give money each turn. and you need to quenqur more spotts for more money and then build buildings and army to upgrade and deffend. but what is most interesing about it is that the game works at the same time for all players like in rts. that made me think on possible campain game for medival 2.

if each player played by turn ... some players would be the adavantage of being in an earlier turn order. but what if all players where playing thier turn at the same time .. then after finishing your movements you submit them and wait for the others to submit as well, every turn will be limited by time which host can increase or decrease. that why there the problem of too long mp games is seirsely decreased. i think that the developers are just to lazy to create such a thing ... that will take time of course . but on the other hand it will take much less time. isnt i am right about this one ? besides lags could only effect in battles that why :)

Several games have tried out the system. The only one I can think of right now is the Age of Wonders series, which had a system in which turns occured simultaneously. It worked quite well.

This could be not only for multiplayer, but also for singleplayer, it would cut down on the 10 minute AI turns in the late game. I thought it was a good system and had secretly been hoping ever since I played AoW that TW would get something like that.

Star Wars Empire at War does a good job of melding a strategic map with tactical battles. all of it in real time.

the bigger maps have 40+ planets, which act like provinces. you can upgrade their economy, and unit building facilities. it has both space and land battles, and you can even get admirals/generals which increase the health of all your units. another plus is it has a very active mod community. a nice side effect of being a star wars game, always plenty of nerds that know what they're doing want to tinker with it .

a good site if you're interested in strategy and star wars.

What you can't do though is have more than 2 players, otherwise during a battle the other players will be waiting for ages before the next turn.

Star Wars Rebellion was before Empire at War (LONG before) and had turns ticking by at a rather fast rate, it was similar to the map interface on Empire at war and had a 2 person head to head. The only fighting you did was with the other player.

This wouldn't work as well with a Total War game though because the diplomacy is half the fun on the campaign map, there is nothing so satisfying as knocking off a nearby nations general without them knowing. Though I would still be overjoyed if someone did implement some form of campaign multiplayer function.

I remember reading about mini multiplayer campaign maps in M2TW in gamespot interviews, if I did remember correctly that is... Not sure how it will work though.
