    Default Loading Skins in 3dsMax7

Once you've loaded a model, how do you apply a skin to it? (as in Photoshop skins). It would make UV Mapping a bit easier as I would know exactly where everything was.

hit m, a dialog box with a whole bunch of grey spheres should pop up. Now click on the first grey sphere. The click the rectangle "Maps" should be near the bottom of the window. Check mark diffuse color and then click the rectangle beside it where it says "None". Double click bitmap and choose your texture. Theres a pulldown menu that says Map #1 choose that and set it to 01-default. Then click the blue and white checkered cube and you are done.

Thanks thats great. Is there anyway to set it so you can't see the skeleton bones that are all multicoloured and get in the way

There should be a little dropdown box just to the left of the "select object" button (the white arrow). On this dropdown list at the bottom you will see "bone" as one of the options but actually you dont want that, you want to click "IK chain objects". Now select the whole of your model (but only the bones will be selected). Right click in the active viewport and click "hide." Bingo!

    Regards,
