Thread: Grumpy Old Men

Here is a thread where you can let loose your rants about any possible subject (try not to be too offensive) whether it be hairdriers, mobile phones, anything that you have thoughts on that you want to "let loose".

Oh, by the way, if somebody makes a complaint that you disagree with, remember that it is only their opinion. No trolling/flaming here, please, but also don't complain about certain people/groups of people etc.

For any of you that haven't seen the TV programme Grumpy Old Men, it is basically just a bunch of famous British oldies ranting on about stuff. Here is an example:

Gift Vouchers
Gift Vouchers are a huge corporate scam to force people to buy products from certain shops. All that happens is that, instead of giving money/presents to people, you are going down to your local Virgin Megastores and turning your money into "special money" that can only be spent there. So why take money and actually make it so that it is only possible to spend that money at a particular store? Sure, book vouchers I can accept. If you have a young relative and you want to encourage them to read, give them book vouchers.

Gift vouchers make a problematic comprimise between actually bothering to go out and buy a present that you think your relative/friend/etc. will like and not being bothered, simply giving them money instead. Seriously, why get up and go to the shop to convert money into these things just so you can force the person you are giving them to to go to that shop and buy them, when you could either give them money (thus allowing them to get what they really want) or buy a present (surprise always makes gift-giving interesting)

P.S. If I have insulted anyone who works in the gift-voucher industry, or who personally believes in them, sorry.

People who think they know science from watching tv commercials.

No, you don't know what Lactobacillus casei immunitas is, let alone what it does....

The thing i hate currently is the bloody new wave of crap tv phone in shows like "The Mint", "Quiz Call", and all the drivel that has hit our screens.

Seriously, who stays up all night and watch this trash?

They rip you off, charging obscene amounts of money a minute (they still charge even if you dont get through).

They have the most ANNOYING presenters EVER, these people have to sit there for hours everynight, talking complete and utter pants, trying to entice all those gamblers out there just to risk another call..."cmon it wont hurt to give us another call".

Yeah im sure it wont hurt you, but the poor wife of a gambling addict who has to queue for his benefits in the morning, im sure will be skipping with joy when she sees the telephone bill.

And the most annoying thing for me, are the shows that its replaced....I used too love late night TV! Old classic films, re-runs of documentaries, good ol' debate shows, sitcoms, there all gone...

Oh well...

I'll guess ill be gracing this thread with my presence at least once a week.

People who support political parties actively. I appreciate someone has to do it, but why can they never see that their hero is in fact the same as the guy they hate and want kicked from power? They're nearly as bad as the seriously religious/feminists.

Yes! More ranting for Kongamato!

Everywhere I look on campus today, I see somebody yakking into their cellphone. They do it while driving, walking from place to place, and even riding their freakin' bikes! They pedal along at half-speed, wobbling back and forth as they try to talk and ride at the same time. Somebody's going to crash someday. And is it too much to ask to remember to turn it off before class begins?

And I agree with the crazed party support, but in the form of bumper stickers. Oh boy, you are SOOO edgy with your bumper sticker telling me I'm a repressed troglodyte or a weenie. Yeah, you really stuck it to the man!

Big Huckin' Chicken. Enough said.

The new Chevy Impala. The previous one had style and looked aggressive with a spoiler, but this one seems neutered and boring. It's just a family sedan now. Way to go US car manufacturing, you are starting your comeback with flying colors! Ever seen a Ford ad lately? NO mention at all about the features of the cars, just a montage of scenes that have nothing to do at all with their cars! This is not exclusive to Ford either. One thing comforts me when I look at GM's problems, and that's that Ford always has it worse.

On the road, those people who, when making a right(left in europe) turn in front of you slow down until they are nearly stopped. It is so aggravating to lose my speed that way.

The entire American obsession with celebrities. Seriously, we have several magazines, at least one TV channel (VH1 is rapidly degrading into an E! type network), and regular sections in newspapers, normal TV channels, and radio shows about them.

Enough already, we don't care who got into a fight with who, who's getting sued by who, who went where for lunch, and who's promoting for what product line. Just stick to making movies, acting, being funny, looking pretty, or singing. And for goodness sakes, if you're a celebrity strictly because you're either rich for no reason or because you're associated with a more famous celebrity, then do me a favor and hide under a rock. Preferably one in Antarctica.

This is also directed at the *#%! press that reports this *#%! as news. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

I've got more!

The Ozzie Guillen fiasco. Are skins so thin that one raw, un-PC statement might get one of the best managers in pro ball fired? How many people haven't said things like what he says? He's just being himself, a regular guy. Could that possibly be one of the things that makes him a good manager? His real "crime" was insulting a sportswriter, and therefore all of the media and the ESPN talking heads have to stick up for him and they won't let the story die. The media shouldn't be a united front. Laugh it off.

People who leave their turn signles on. I hate that. Just rolling down the street in a straight line, not turning yet telling the whole world they are about to.

Also any new age cultist. NO, THERE IS NOThING MAGICAL ABOUT THE MAYA PYRAMIDS!

Oh yeah, that I don't have access to a car in this town where you need one to go ANYWHERE. I'm not even sure the bus network covers the whole town. The one I went on barely went halfway across the city.

And that the handbook with all the bus routes costs 25 cents.

The recent spat of ads in Washington, hacked up like a wad of mucous from the same cretins who gave us 'Say Wa' as a tourism slogan, about smoking:
http://www.unfilteredtv.com/view/tobacco_ads.php
(Look at the first two movies)[Only if you're not quesy]

They are disgusting and so outrageous it makes me want to spend $50 to buy a carton and chain smoke them all, just to spite them. Or send donations to tobacco companies. Or stop calling lung cancer 'Geoffery's Disease'*.

And idiots who move to Washington from Cali and then try to change Washington into the new Cali, which makes you wonder why the (@#&$(*ers left Cali in the first place. Especially when they move somewhere and then complain and call in constantly about 'speeders' on the roads near them, when it has been that way for years.

Lawn mowing is sort of fun, except when you accidentally run over part of the garden, a rock, metal rod, or large stick, oooooo or my personal favorite a tomoto cage hidden by tall-grass which subsequently gets caught in one of the wheels on your mower deck and then makes the engine spew smoke and makes you think you killed the blades.

Other than those things I do enjoy it though, seriously...

Even worse are the spoilt brats.

These special individuals do not whinge about losing. No, they never ever ever ever lose, according to them. You simply cannot reason with them, they have to be correct.

These so called "Emo bands" and "Emo" people themselves. These are the kinda guys (in case you didn't know) who wear all black, listen to bands like Hawthorn Heights and My Chemical Romance, pretend they have problems and insist on telling everyone about it. I'll admit, about 10% of them actually have problems, but the 90% that be "Emo" just for the sheer thrill of it annoy the living hell out of me! Get a freakin life and loose the goddamn make up! Most of them have rich parents, loads of friends and act emo cos they think it's cool. Wake up! you have a great life! stop acting like a complete **** and enjoy life!

See what they've done? theyve reduced a 16 year old to become a grumpy old man!

Celebrities who are famous for......err, well being famous. Jade Goody, Chantelle, Jordan...the list goes on and on.

They do nothing, except get snapped by the paparazzi when out eating pizza. They have no talent, no, I am wrong there, they have an abundance of talent for having no talent. I don't want to listen to these morons spouting forth on God knows what. I have no desire to read their 'autobiographies'(yeah right) when they can barley string a legible sentence together when talking, never mind about them writing a novel.

I mean, who wants to know Jade Goodies workout schedule? It's not as though it works, is it? You fat slapper.

My wife just sucks up all these 'celebrity' magazines everytime we go to Asda. I read one the other day (I was feeling bored) and it got to page 36 before I recognised anyone. And that was Nicole Kidman. Still at least she actually does something.

Rant off....

Emo bands are the James Dean of the new millenium; but James Dean was much cooler and the whining by the emulators was much lower in volume.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but back in my day (the 70's), being rebellious was cool in school; but being a whiner was just annoying.

OK, come to think of it, I'm must be getting old. I do have a T-shirt with a pic of an older guy in Bermuda shorts, black socks, penny loafers, suspenders, and a "wife-beater" sleeveless white undershirt standing on his porch with a cigarette hanging off his lower lip and a caption that reads, "Hey, you kids! Get off my lawn!" It seems I'm now living my own nightmare.

And that reminds me...

Hey, you kids! Get off my lawn!

Of late I've been getting lots of road rage, so the culprits are:

1. Idiots that don't know why there are white lines along the road
2. More idiots that can't stay in one lane for more than 2 seconds
3. Even more idiots who think my safe braking distance from the car in front is an invitation to overtake

@ those who enjoy lawn mowing ... £10 an hour and a few beers, anyone? Please.... pretty please??? Or do I have to drink my own beer and keep on watching it grow?????

Also, people who drive hummers!!!!! What kind of ****** buys such a monstrosity. Hi I commute to work via a inner-city highway ... thats why I feel the need to drive a 200 tonne, 50 L per mile beast, that can hanndle driving through rivers and sand dunes when I'm driving on flippin' tar. Oh yeh and check out my shiny bullbar, its just incase I hit a wild animal ... in the middle of the city!?!? Did I mention the fact it can fit 31 people in it?
