Default Making Texture File, Or Maybe Just Modding Current One?

The unit Pictish Crossbowmen are wearing armour, but I would like to moddify it so they are simmilar to Celtic Warriors but holding Crossbows. I was wandering if anyone could help or give advice.

I know you have to change the BIF files and then the coords in the weapons.txt. But whenever I try convert to a BIF, the colours turn out blue tinted and generally wrong!?!?!

You need a bitmap file with 256 indexed colours.
When you create one in Photoshop however, your
    palette order won't be correct.
32 colours, 16 pink and 16 green, need to be in the correct index fields at the end of the palette. Additionally the first index colour (#0) needs to be in green, which works as a transparency colour (0,128,0) and last colour #256 in white (255,255,255).

I'd suggest to use readbif to extract a bif to bmp.
Then open it in photoshop and look at the palette.

Or you could open a newly created bif with readbif and change the palette colours to see how it works.

did you download the CA bif buf utilities?
Also, Duke John has written an excellent unit graphics guide where he
discusses all the different aspects elaborately.
There's also a screenshot of the palette.
