Thread: I would buy Alexander IF!!!

Default I would buy Alexander IF!!!

Well, currently as it is, there are 2 ways to get Alexander, either DL it or get it with Total War Eras. The first option is stupid, since I read Simon saying that you only can use it 4 times?! What is in my opinion simply crap, and since I can't use it except on one PC? And I'm going to get a new one soon..

The second choice is also stupid (For me), give me one site that is ready to ship to Jordan without at least 20 $ shipping costs.. Eh. I usually get the games I really want through like, someone is going to USA, I ask him to get me a copy.

So.. What do you think ?

IMO, Alexander's not worth the money.
The historical battles aren't bad, but the campaign becomes pretty boring after like 30 minutes, because there's little to no variation.

If I'm to get it, that would be to gain the 'so-called' AI progress..

I would buy it if they sent out a CD (small package)
I just don't want to fiddle with the online subscription (RTW don't play that great on my Comp.)

As far as I undestand (don't have XP), the strenght on campaign is in its challenge. Still since only Macedon is playable there is not too much variety.

Also (I think?), this is kind of game that needs online authentication on every play (like NWN official modules), which makes it necessary always to be online in order to play. That's not kind of game I would ever buy.

Wait till the cd version comes out there will be a fan made patch to fix all that online validation nonsense in a user friendly torrent site near you:I own all the RTW (including 2 copies of RTW) games so I don't see why I have to buy them all again just so my collection can be complete.

    Hi,

I'm a bit confused but what is this story about Alexander only being useable 4 times? 4 times what exactly?

Well I did as I said and then offered to send CA 10 euros for the game on their forums. Surprisingly next time I visited the fiorums I got this:

Being banned is not a badge of honour. It's a sign that you aren't worthy to be a member of a community.

You advocated using bittorrent pirate on our official site, and yet seem surprised that you were banned. The offer of 10 euros was neither here nor there - you were advocating theft, for that is what piracy is. If you're daft enough recommend stealing from the owners of the forum you are on, then you shouldn't be surprised when you get banned.

Though, he kind of has a point:
I own all the RTW (including 2 copies of RTW) games so I don't see why I have to buy them all again just so my collection can be complete.
In short. It means that why if someone wants to get Alexander, he must buy the whole "Total War Eras".. Wouldn't that be a waste of money (In the case where you have all the precious titles, I mean).

P.S. I am not in anyway encouraging, or even implying the use of illegal ways to obtain the Alexander expansion.

Well I bought it online and downloaded and order the optional CD...

The 4 times thing is not how often you can install it. It is how many times you can download it. But as long as you keep the downloaded software somewhere safe then you don't need to download it again.

I spent the extra bucks onthe optional CD which turned up promptly and is safely tucked away in the BI box...

I really don't see what the issue is. If you really liked RTW (playing the Greeks) then this is more of the same plays really well. If not then I suggest avoiding it!

If I got Era's it would just be for completeness and the book as I already have all the software in it...

So you can buy the Alexander CD alone?

EDIT: The annoying thing is that I'm going to get it anyway..

No you have the extra option of having a Cd as well when you buy it. And i've installed ATW over 7 times so far so id agree with the othe rposter who said it refers to the amount of times you can download it.

And it is worth getting, the cmapaign is real fun, a nice challenge with different gameplay feel to it than RTw or BI.

Fishypants we all know that having Alexander on CD only in the Eras box is the only way you'll get the public to buy this box in the first place. We all have the games already all 3 of them. How times do you intend to sell us those 3 gameswith different editions. I don't have a connection on my gaming rig since I don't play online so I have to fork out 60 euros for an addon? After playing the addon for 4 hours I consider myself lucky for not having wasted my money.

Perhaps... but perhaps not. The Eras box set did make the top 10 PC sales in the UK, possibly because there are many people who came to the whole Total War series late on and haven't had the chance to play Shogun or Medieval TW. There's a long tradition of doing retrospective compilations, after all, and this really is a good value compendium of games and extras for those who want it.

However... here you are again admitting to piracy, and on another forum with an anti-piracy policy.

Shakes head in despair once more.

If there was a demo, he could've tried it witout resorting to whatever he did...

Although, in my oppinion, Total War demos are poor in what they are supposed to do (to give demonstration of gameplay, which historic battle doesn't do, since campaign is the core).

    GAH!

Vanya fell off His mighty horse in the dark and forgot that He had installed "The Clapper" on the moon, so like a fool, He dabbled in the darkness looking for a wee bit of light to guide Him back to his restless beast.

Then Vanya realized that having no head means "vision" is irrelevant.

Vanya just now caught up to His horse... and is confused with all this talk of ERA and Sikandr. What... did Sikandr have an earned-run-average of 3.1 or something? Last Vanya checked, baseball was not even played in the age of Sikandr...
