We need a stickied post with old name/new name cross references for those of us that are easily confused. Eclectic, you'll always be good ol' DA in my book.

Maybe it is me, but in all the cases I can think of, I liked the old name better...okay, on second thought, I am happy that Oaty finally got his capital "O".

Now to be honest, that's what everyone said when Capo changed his name, now half the members probably have no clue who i'm talking about.

But I did prefer DA, it suited you much better. Eclectic is such a new age alias...

Aye, he promoted himself to Kaiser. I don't know why it's "of Arabia" either, since he gives me the impression that he is very much not Arabic, much less Arabic royalty.

Like King Malcolm who demoted himself to Duke.

Anyway, DA, why the name change?

The "You know who I am" was a dead giveaway. Besides, you waited this long?

I'd recognize that Village People mustache anywhere. So are you going to clue anyone in on the reason for the name swap?

After looking up the meaning of the word "Eclectic" in the dictionary, I discovered that I'm almost an eclectic as well -I wasn't able to define myself before I knew that word.

So greets fly out to DA - a-ye, that was a better nickname but the choice is his.

Well, the reason he changed his name is because there's only one DA on these forums.

That's true DA, but it isn't a problem as long as the two of you don't post in the same thread - oh...

Divinus Arma was something RTWesque that I stuck in a latin translator and thought would be good enough for a gaming forum where I would only post one or twice.

3000+ posts later, I decided to pick something with personal meaning.

Eclectic isn't new age. I just acknowledge the inherent lack of absolute confidence that any of us can ever have in anything.

I was once a liberal myself: I voted for Al Gore, I saw the benefit of lifting the minimum wage, of giving social programs to the poor. That is because I was poor. I was never educated enough to see both sides. I chose the more logical of the two, but that does not mean that I am correct by any stretch.

Same goes with religion. I was once a Christian. I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior and lamented at the loss of so many souls to damnation. Until I began to see the patterns in each religion and especially the shared themes in science and religious perspective. All is temporary, nothing is certain, solidity is an illusion.

In every philosophy, I never strictly adhere to one outlook, nor am I 100% certain of the outlook I have chosen. I believe that certainty is reserved for noone and to claim certainty is arrogance. But that does not mean we cannot have an opinion; as an Eclectic, I have a responsibility to learn all sides and choose that which is most logical and relevant for me.

Eclectism demands tolerance and seeks knowledge and wisdom through variety of perspective. This may not be who I am at all times, but it is who I aspire to be. And I truly believe that the qualities we most admire are those which lay inherent within us. We are our role models.

That was really quite beautiful, E; better and more heartfelt writing than we in the monkey gallery deserve.

By way of salute, I hereby swear to never tease you about your Village People mustache ever again.

After having read this and the mobile phone thread it seems the Lemur has found a new friend. Very cute.

Hey, if E wants to post thoughtful, informed responses, who am I to say anything but "bravo"? Anybody who elevates the discussion is worthy of some mild praise. That doesn't mean we'll be soaping each others' beards anytime soon.

    Lemur is nothing to me but a Liberal. A hybrid-driving, welfare-state-sponsoring, racism-propogating, national-security-weak, crime-weak, tree-hugging, drug-supporting, homosexual-marriage-defending, tax-everyone, dirty liberal.

He's also a fairly smart fella and very proud dad.

Methinks you protest too much. And we all know opposites attract.

I for one, agree with Lemur and think your name change had excellent reasoning. Your post was very eloquent, Eclectic, and quite touching. Damned if I can spell it consistently though.

I didn't mean to come across disrespectful. I apologise. It just struck me having previously read the other aforementioned thread.

And Ex-DA's (Eclectic's) post did make sense and it did promote the thread to other heights. I didn't mean to imply otherwise (and I don't think I did).

On a side note, I really WOULD like to see you two soaping each other's beards. That would be one for the books.
