    Default Betrayal

i read somewhere that there are severe penalties if you betray your ally. What penalties exactly?

Where'd you read that? I suppose on H/VH the other factions know that you have the potential to betray them and might not agree to as much as they would have if you never betrayed someone before. But allies are essentially useless in RTW. They'll attack you no matter how illogical it might be and won't do anything for you. The only thing I've ever found the alliance system useful for is to preserve a faction. I have a few ideas I want to play with in scripting things for allies, but I'm still just learning.

It's in the features of EB

Diplomatic relationships of rebel cities with existing factions accurately represented, with severe consequences for AI and human players who violate those alliances.
I was wondering what kind of consequences.

Just if you attack a particular city under patronage of another faction you're automatically at war with that other faction. I think this happens if anyone attacks Syracuse, then they're at war with Rome. All scripted.
