Thank you Italy for playing a killer game. France deserved to be the best, but because of Zidane's nerves, Cannavaro's murder of Henry and Trezeguet' stupid miss, France lost.

Can't believe Italy's no. 5 wasn't given a red card for that knockout against Henry! That was the ugliest foul I've ever seen in football, even worse than the often mentioned German goalkeeper's rush in whatever year it was. Also the ref is clearly bribed, it's like 20-10 in fouls to Italy, but Italy has had 5-10 free kicks while France has had 1 or 2. Damn Italians starting the game by nearly killing Henry then knocking Viera, then fouling enough Viera to enable one of their tall but talentless offensive players to score by a header. Pretty amazing that the Italians, despite starting the game with the intention of killing Henry and Viera haven't been shown a single card while France have been shown one.

BTW, these "killing Henry" accusations are quite insulting and unfair - it was pretty clear that this was a very unfortunate collision (both looking for the ball in the air)

I think France played slightly better but wasn't able in the end to score any goals except for the early penalty.

Disappointing to see a final decided by pk and it would habe been quite tragic to see Italy loose another final in pk after 1994.

Bottomline: I think we saw the better "final" on Saturday

I disagree, Cannavaro looked left towards Henry, then used the shoulder and fist under the chin of a fast forward running Henry. Because of the speed of Henry, the already hard fist hit under the chin becomes a lot more serious. Anyone with medical knowledge would immediately want Cannavaro to be punished severely for such an action. Plus you're responsible for where you have your body parts in all other duels - elbows etc give cards even if it was "a mistake", which it clearly wasn't in this case. What strikes me as most cold-hearted, evil and unsportsmanlike is the fact that Cannavaro and the entire Italian team (with the almost murder attempt of Viera a few minutes later) know that the ref won't give any red cards during the first few minutes of a WC final, because it would kill the game. Instead, the Italian team can knock two players, Henry in the head so he plays below his normal level for the entire game, and Viera in the leg so by the 80th minute he feels the injury and must be substituted.

I'm wondering if you was ashamed when Brazil won the cup at the PK ...I suppose no. What you wrote about the accidents involving Vieira and Henry are only your personal and forced interpretations of two normal game collisions. It seems that you (and sadly many other members of the board) are finding excuses to diminish the Italian performance supporting an absolutely mystified version of the events: it's very sad, and that's the true shame.
