That first screen looks like the starting position for the English. They have exactly 5000 florins (??)...

Only 3 provinces should make for mor of a challenge...

The flag is the golden horde flag, but they weren't announced as playable?
Or is that supposed to be the Timurids? (though the timurids had a different flag).

If it is I'm going to scream. Why is Northumbria rebel? And why does France control so much land in France while England only has Caen (shudder) in Normandy?

It does not sound a bad representation of the precarious position of the Normans in 1080. AFAIK, they did have to spend quite a bit of time pacifying the country. A rebel province seems a reasonable way of representing that within the TW engine.

Perhaps, but surely they could achieve that effect by simply giving the area loyalty problems at the beginning of the game. As it is the idea of an Anglo-Norman army moving into Northumbria having to conquer York seems ludicrous, especially after the whacking given the area less than two decades ago by William the Conquerer.

Northumbria was already about as pacified as you can get.

Actually I like the rain...it may not be as realistic as the grass, but look at it, it's very atmospheric and actually fits well with the surroundings.

I'd imagine that york would be the capital of Northumbria since it was an important Anglo-Saxon town.

Let's face it choosing one town to represent 1/3 of England is always going to be an abstraction. Warwick would probably be equally as good as Nottingham or Leicester. But there was no salient middle England city (unlike Birmingham today).
If CA excluded London, then I would understand the outrage. But people are getting angry about excluding Leicester? Or what?
Actually Leicester was as big or bigger than Nottingham and richer! It is certanly an older city remembered for the conclusion of the "Wars of the roses". Infact i'm surprised nobody has mentioned Lincoin yet, Lincoin was very neally the Capital of England! And at times during the medieval era Lincoin was the richer city. But I don't care what the city of the Midlands is called.

Sorry to double post, i can't edit noob u see. Actually the north of England was rebelling from 1066 to 1075, plus the Scottish tried to invade England along with Harold's illegitimate sons and finally the Danes tried one last time.

The Harrying of the North pretty much erased any resistance in Northumbria. The area was totally destroyed and laid waste, all livestock were butchered, all crops were burnt, uncounted numbers of civilians were massacred. Even after William's troops left, famine and plague continued to take their toll. During the Harrying, around a fifth of England's population died.

Either way, the last resistance was in '75, but the game is supposed to start in 1080, and the period of uprisings was over by that time.

EDIT: And yes, York should be the capital of Northumbria.

yup 1080 should see Northumbria/Northumberland as part of England. A castle at Newcastle is built by the Anglo-Normans there in this year.

I see a great base-game. That is all I care about. What most of you are bickering about can be handled in mods and that stuff. I see a great game with oppurtunities for mods. I really like what I see!

Just look at the battle mini map..

A redline? Yes, but look how much unpassable terrain there is.. Nice terrain I'd say!
"Cry, the beloved country, for the unborn child that is the inheritor of our fear. Let him not love the earth too deeply. Let him not laugh too gladly when the water runs through his fingers, nor stand too silent when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire. Let him not be moved when the birds of his land are singing, nor give too much of his heart to a mountain or a valley. For fear will rob him of all if he gives too much."

    Graphically awesome.

CA was obviously too bogged down with the amazing work they are doing (, thanks guys) to do significant research on the names of cities in that era. Well I'm just happy that names are generally easy to mod.

I like the atmosphere, although not as amazing as S:TW, still good as it suits the graphical advances.

However, unfortunatly possibly no effort at all went into making the battle interface. I hope its just a pre-interface while in the testing phase. And those unit images don't really suit the style of the rest of the game. But also this is not to hard to mod either.
