Default Technical difficulties with Shogun Gold/Eras edition

I just got the Total War:Eras package as a gift a few months ago and finally started playing Shogun to get started (no prior experience with the game)

I've encountered a technical problem I don't know how to handle. I turned the throne room feature on yesterday when I started a new campaign. Every time I agree to receive an emmissary I get a pop up dialog box telling me that the windows debugger is running and then if I do anything more the game shuts down and I lose everything since my last save. It's very frustrating.

I turned off the throne room feature hoping it would solve the problem but the debugger box popped in the middle of an ordinary campaign turn again causing the game to shut down.

Anyone encounter this problem before and know how to fix it? I wish I remembered more of what the dialog box said but all I know is that it said that the debugger was running.

Can be related to Nero 6. People have gotten that debugger box to go away by uninstalling Nero 6. It could also be related to some other program used to access CD/DVD drives, but I don't recall any specific ones mentioned.

You know, I installed Nero 6 (came with the DVD drive I installed) shortly before starting to play Shogun. That could be it. Maybe I'll uninstall it and see what happens. I rarely burn outside of Itunes anyway.

Uninstalling Nero seemed to do the trick... no problems with the throne room or movies since I uninstalled it.

Thanks for the welcome, Martok. Glad to see there is such a vibrant community for this game.

By the way, what's the conventional wisdom on the difficulty of the AI in the single player version of Shogun. I've played it about a dozen times and I'm already winning custom battles on the "Hard" difficulty level, even where I've made what are in restrospect serious tactical blunders. I've started a campaign on hard after getting familiar with the battle mode by playing custom battles and I've only lost one battle out of six since I've started (with Shimazu).

Is this a game that works best between humans? I love it so far, but would like more of a challenge since realistically I'm only going to playing the AI.

Yes, the AI won't provide much resistance once you get good at the game. Play with some iron man rules:

    don't use great generals
    expert
don't train many troops/expand on many fronts so they outnumber you
    don't use archers or muskets
don't build too many upgrade buildings

Don't have to use all of these, but using some can make the game fun again. Particularly the "attacking the enemy which outnumbers you 3 to 1" part.
