Thread: Infinite money

    Default Infinite money

I am looking forward to this mod because it is the only equivalent of RTR and some people based on personal preferences think its even better!

I was wondering however doe sthe AI get infinite money VH or not? because it would really ruin a major aspect of the game if they do. In both vanilla and RTR I loved blockading the carthaginians and watching as numidia tore them apart!

First off, next time, only click 'submit new thread' ONCE.

Secondly, yes, the AI is scripted to be given additional money when they start falling badly in debt. I don't consider it a bad aspect of the game personally. It prevents factions from simply self-destructing, making them more fun to continue to fight, and since the AI can't really use the money effectively, it is not a true advantage for them.

I'm not sure when they get extra cash but here is a screen shot of why they need it...

The AI just isn't smart enough, so they get a little help once in awhile. It makes it more fun and helps balance out the fact that they suck at managing money. And yes that's from RTR not EB

The AI gets a certain amount when it falls so far into debt - I think something around 20,000 a turn, but due to the cost of supporting troops that may not actually be that much. When I was fighting Carthage I had blockaded their ports while they still had several standing stacks of armies and they were in the red the rest of the game - that is until I had to stop playing due to bugs.

How does it ruin the game if the AI gets an advantage?

I would say that the AI should most definitely get more money on vh than on easy. It wouldn't ruin the game at all. If you play on vh you would expect it to be harder than on easy. The difficulty levels are for you not for the AI. Besides, it's probably hardcoded and you can't change how much they get. Don't quote me on that though.

Its definetly not hard-coded, as this was not a feature in the vanilla RTW. It is scripted into the game. I believe it is in fact in the range of 20,000, or at least 10,000. Though it may depend on exactly how much money they are losing per turn. As shown in the screenshot above, even when they do recieved the scripted money, they don't really do anything with it. The AI still just sits on their ass, they don't actually use that money to create a new army or upgrade their cities etc. I'm guessing that it is scripted they get a certain amount per turn if they are in the negative in quarterly income. And as I said, since they basically just sit back and don't spend any money, they continue to "lose" money, because I don't think they truely even know they are getting the money. Which is I assume why they end up getting upwards of 200k very quickly. I think it is scripted per quarterly income, and not how much they actually have in their treasury (because if this were the case, they would stop getting the money very quickly, instead of building up an endless treasury).

Actually, there is a hardcoded part of the vanilla game that gives the AI factions an extra 10,000 per turn (on VH only), regardless of the faction size or financial status. Of course, EB compliments this with its own scripted financial support.

As to whether the AI actually uses all this extra money...I don't know. It's hard to tell, sometimes...

It uses those extra money. How do i know it? Well it was easy to tell on Cassae faction example. Very hard starting position. But there was this pattern, more many we gave them (per turn) faster they expanded.
