    Default Nice bergkamp compilation

Just found this on another site, and I could just as well put it here for the footballfans to enjoy, 28 great bergkamp goals.

    http://video.google.nl/videoplay?doc...621&q=bergkamp

especially this is just too brilliant. You don't see how classy it really is untill you see it in slow-motion, what a wizard.

Legend. It was nice to see him score on Dennis Bergkamp Day also.
[Look at the curl on that.] Maybe his last competitive goal, I'm not
    sure.

His testimonial is on Saturday, isn't it?

Indeed, against his old club Ajax where it all started. Beautifull ain't it

Check this! The Guardian has resorted to printing continental football news in French.

Either that, or the flagship of the British quality press simply translates French news for its coverage of continent football news. I bet the author of the article, their 'Berlin correspondent' Michael Atkins, will soon send his English translation correct original article to them.

(Sorry, this has nothing to do with Bergkamp. Figuring that most people don't necessarily share my obsession with choice of language, I shouldn't start an entire thread about it. And I didn't know where else to put it.)

    Well it is about football.

Thanks for sharing Frag, enjoyed watching it.

But still, I find it hard to decide which goal I like better, the one against Newcastle, or the one against Argentina in '98...

The goal against Argentina is a classic, but it is not unique.

The one against Newcastle is one-of-a-kind. I've never before or after seen anything like it. It is Bergkamps magnum opus, his finest moment, a move that forever will be associated with him.

But the Argentina goal was [crucially] of greater importance.
Larger stage, greater pressure, and so overall a greater achievement.

As do I, it makes for better viewing, like during Euro 2004.
Just a shame it wasn't a deciding match.

I've watched it several times, and I still don't understand what happened. Did he backheel it into space that he followed up into? If so, it's amazing how he knew where the defender was with his back turned to him, where the defender was heading to give him that space, and his confidence that he would outfox his marker.

The goal against Argentina was a classically beautiful goal, all the arts in classical football as played by Europeans, executed to perfection. The above goal against Newcastle was something different, an unorthodoxy which is more often seen in South Americans.

Something else I liked about those two goals was his strength in holding off his marker, and his coolness in opting for a simple finish instead of blasting it.

I have a question: how did Bergkamp play in the 2002 World Cup? Did he overcome his fear of planes for the duration of the tournament? Or was he given an early break by Arsenal so he could make his way there by boat?

My mistake, I assumed the Dutch would have been certain qualifiers for any world cup. What happened in the qualifiers? Who got in ahead of you?

If I remember correctly, we got second in our qualification group (who ended first I don't remember) and then faced Ireland in the play offs.

This is what happened, the very, very short version that is:

Ireland did beat you in a crucial match to make it to the playoffs, though.

    Heh, that was awesome.

I liked the commentator on the goal against Argentina. He seemed pretty excited...

Don't let the fact that he made the goal against Argentina look so easy.

The goal against Argentina is technical superior compared to the one against Newcastle.

The ball was delivered from the back left of the pitch to front right of the pitch over 50 yards in the air. He took one touch to control that ball and placed it perfectly for his second touch.

The Newcastle goal is Bergkamp's Football brain on display rather than his technical ability. Although again, his first touch is unbelievable in terms of understanding what he was trying to accomplish.
