Thread: EB Animations

  1. #1

    Default EB Animations

the animations in EB are fantastic. when you watch battles the animations are so fast and smooth its like watching a real battle almost. even superior to Signeifer1's (though he made it by himself i think so you gotta give him credit) so would you guys release an EB animation pack? (i would really like it on my vanila RTW and have those pikemen finally use two-hands)

alin made all the animations for EB and he released the animations in a pack. Didn't find the thread for it though, so hopefully others might find it.

We had a new animator, aevionknight, but I don't think he's around any more (we could use his help, but I just haven't seen him). I personally do not know what he submitted.

There needs to be a sheild bash animation.

that would be nice but then if there were, people would kill people by hitting them with their shield.

well how could you kill a person by hitting them with a sheild? perhaps they get flinched but you cant do that in RTW.

Try whacking someone upside the head with a 10-20 kilo shield and see how well they fare... trust me, it'd hurt. And you'd get arrested.

The problem with whacking someone over the head with your shield is that it means raising it overhead and thus exposing your abdomen for a nice underhand stab, so it is probably you who'd get hurt. It is possible you could knock someone unconscious by hitting them on the jaw from below, but the main function of the shield bash is to get your opponent unbalanced, not actually killing. Perhaps we could get a combined bash-and-stab animation, but this may be a bit too much to ask.

With larger shields, such as a Roman scutum, that wouldn't be too much of a problem. In a tightly ordered formation it'd be risky, since it would expose oneself and the person a shield should protect, but in a less orderly melee it'd be quite viable; particularly if the eye of the enemy is on the sword arm.

Edit: sorry, didn't properly read the last few lines. It's correct that the shield would usually be used to unbalance an opponent with a knock on the jaw, actually killing someone would be comparatively rare.

It'd be interesting if some (reenactment?) experts could shed some light on what is possible, viable in battle and actually useful.
