Check some RTW support forums. I had the same problem, it's something to do with the installer. You have to delete a couple of files and then it'll work. I don't remember the forum though, took me a while to find it. I remember they made the topic a sticky though since a few people had the problem.
You can use the uninstalling program to uninstall RTW, then reinstall it. That will leave you with no traces of 1.2.

It's not a problem that has been reported before as far as i have seen. That makes it seem like there was a problem that occurred during the download of the mod itself. It is not some problem that we can say "go to the text in line so and so of such a file and replace it with X". If the download is a clean one, and the build is a clean 1.2 one with no other mods and no other patches, then it will work. I don't know what else to say besides that.
did you also delete map.rwm in the imperial_campaign folder?
