Just noticing how slow this website is...any reasons why?

It's taking 2-3 full minutes at times to load a thread. I have a T1 connection that is boarderline as fast as you can go in a residential. I've also accessed this with a (t2?) at work and it's the same thing, so it's not on this end.

Anyone know what's causing the problem? I'd speculate that it's user traffic but there's websites that probably get 150x more hits than this and those never seem to be this slow.

Not a criticism, just an observation.

I get this too. Don't know why, but I counter it by cranking up the number of posts per page, (which doesn't seem to affect loading times) and using the quick reply when possible.

ah...there's an idea (load more posts per page). Makes sense...still wait a few minutes but get double the posts...that's a fair compromise.

Well, we do have over fifteen thousand members and 1 million posts.

The forums occasionally suffers from bouts of slowness. These usually pass within ten minutes or so. At the moment we don't know what is causing this.

Back in 2001, when the US invaded Afghanistan I remember reading a report of US Special Forces Soldiers finding some old dialup wire and an N64 stowed away in one of the farthest reaching caves in the Hindu-Kush.

Its your computers, clear you cookies. This forum is very fast, members and post count has nothing to do with the speed of the forum/website.
Im a member at IFSZ.net and they have 167,282 registered members and a total of 2,813,622 posts. And there board is slighty faster than this one.

Just clear your cookies, it will speed up :)

Cookies have no bearing on this problem, or speed in general. The problem entails actually waiting for the server to respond which can take up to five minutes and occasionally more at times.

no offense but please clear this rubbish off of this thread. This, as another poster already mentioned, has nothing to do with cookies. lmao...you "experts"...I tell ya, what a hoot.

As for the slow site...problem hasn't existed in like 2 weeks for me. Unless anyone is having a specific problem currently with the site being slow...thread's dead.
