Getting Muslims to sign up for Family Fun Day: No Day at the Park

I remember a few months back when we debated the Muslim only 'Family Fun Day' at an amusement park in Britain. Some felt it was okay to be discriminatory, so long as the discrimination is on behalf of a religious minority (read not-Christian). Others thought what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Seems like the issue was resolved in a completely overlooked outcome: What happens if you throw a party but none of the guests come? As the entire event was defended as a way to 'defuse' Muslim rage in Britain and make them feel more a part of British society... what does this say? Muslims in Britain are too PO'd to take part? Or is it more banal than that... they just don't care about going on the "Ripsaw"? Thoughts? Opinions? Soap Boxes?

On a side note, my favorite sideline quote was a bride holding her wedding at the park was ready to fight for the right of her and her bridesmaids to show some skin...

But the fun day had caused some consternation: a non-Muslim couple scheduled to hold their wedding at the park's hotel complained to newspapers that event organizers told them the bride and female guests would have to cover up.

You are right, Reenk, that there were in reality 3 (possibly 4 camps). Folks who didn't like Muslim Family Fun Day or Christian Skate day, folks who liked the first but not the second, folks who like both, and I imagine (though I'm not remembering any) that approved of the 2nd but not the first.

No, I think they just feel comfortable going to the Theme Park whenever they feel like doing so and don't have an issue with it being not "muslim-compatible" on regular days (just as most Christians wouldn't bother to go to the Park on a special "Christian day" but would just go whenever they like)

Well i'm glad it got cancelled. Its not like it helped their image when it made the news that muslims will get one day exclusive for them(luckily apparently it was just some company that tried marketing the idea and failed). It just shows they don't care.

Thats what I thought when I read it in the paper. It just shows that Britain isn't full of hardcore fundamentalists; but the ones we do have are quite loud.

As to the wedding, I expect she wanted to have bare arms and shoulders, not thigh slits and plunging necklines.

But people holding their wedding at a theme park? I somehow doubt they have any taste anyway, so I wouldn't put it past them to have the bride in a mini-skirt, or something like that.

Maybe they all had a nice cup of tea instead? Feeling really angry (well, all right, mildly annoyed) and then having a cup of tea and calming down would be a sign of complete integration into the British way of life. Which is more than can be said for rollercoasters.

I went to Muslim fun Day at six flags over texas and got a rash from this chic who insisisted on rubbing my lovehandles and yelling "Uber Mensch" while we went on the Log Ride. I also went to christian day but all those triflin hoes had long sleeves on, which makes me paranoid about hairy pits, so I just stayed in the arcade and pwnt little kids on Mortal Combat.

In no way would an event like that promote acceptance, integration or tolerance, it simply further widens the existing divide. The lack of any takers spoke the minds of muslims in general: "No Thanks". Totally agree. If I was Muslim I would be somewhat offended. Besides I'm sure rioting, burning cars, and threatening the death of anyone that draws pictures of Muhammed takes up too much time to go to the park anyway.
