Thread: Uber Generals
Tyfus 22:27 08-03-2006
I've been noticing lately that the generals in my game seem a little too hard to kill I play on m/m. For example I was attacking an eluetheroi town as HK. The wierd thing is the general was on foot with an iphikratides unit even though he was an actual character and had about 6 stars. So any way I slowly killed of his unit until it was just him left and i had him surrounded by loads of spear men and peltasts. It took about 5 minutes of my men jabbing at him and knockng him over until finally he went down. It was just kind of ridiculous how long he was able to stay alive.
Other generals have also seemed to be uber strong and just wont go down even when completely circled by enemies.
I have done a little messing around with the defense points of the casse general and to tell the truth I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing, but all I did was to raise his defense numbers.

Could this have caused other generals to some how get stronger?

Has anyone else encountered ridiculously strong generals?
or is this just normal for EB?

thanks

Generals have many hitpoints, so you have to 'kill' him quite a few times. Some of them are extra annoying with traits such as 'Hale and hearty', giving him an extra 3 hitpoints on top of that.

Generals don't necessarily have to be on cavalry and be close combat anyway. The Kretan general has a missile cavalry unit. The Sweboz generals are infantry.

I believe that 0.74 got rid of the 2 hp given to the generals bodyguard, like vanilla, so bodyguards are the same as ordinary units. However Tiberius is right and there are traits that will affect the generals hitpoints.

Ok just checking, I guess that one general must have had some kind of trait that boosted his hit points because it took a lot of killin' to kill him

I think all generals have something like four hit points anyway; so maybe something which reduces this to two would be better.

Dangerous for your generals, though.

By the way, what was it with one of the Pontic generals in my campaign? I know most have swords, but this special one punched a few of my men to death before dying.

It is a bug in R:TW, not in EB. Officers (including generals and captain) occasionally lose their sword. It doesn't seem to affect their combat effectiveness, though.

Yes, a few of my soldiers noticed that.

due to hardcode limits, people may get this mixed up with the punch-punch-punch-punch-punch-punch-punch technique instead
