Thread: Anguish

    Default Anguish

Alright so I know you guys don't want to give out a release date. But I'm really confused and its making hurt... on the inside. So I would realy appreciate it if you could ease my anguish and tell me whether I should be annticipating the .8 version in a few days? weeks? Months(please no )? I just keep hearing that "it's going to be soon", or "just in a few days" or "a few weeks probably" and tell the truth it's starting to get on my nerves and as sad as being made nervous over the release of a mod sounds the fact is that I REALLY like this mod alot and dammit! I am nervous and anticipating the release with all the great new things that have been previewed and not previewed. So please for the love of all that is sacred and holy under the sun give us a real time span.
    Days?
    Weeks?
    Months?

Thanks and I hope you realize that my begging you for this is a testament to how great this mod is
Keep up the good work chaps

I'm sorry for your feelings of anguish over the absence of 0.8, but please be reminded that the EB team feel just as anxious as you for not only do we feel an obligation to release this as soon as possible (we know how long you have had to wait) but we also cannot wait to see 0.8 in all its glory. But we really are not able to give a release date at all for fear of further causing our fans anguish. It is not months away, that is for sure (unless of course a particularly nasty incident causes a problem with the implementation of the new MIC and government stuff - but if so you will know when we do). Days is not going to happen, but we are coming close. Which leaves weeks, but I could not ascribe numbers to that. Please be paitent and do not worry. Also do not put so much faith into 0.8 it still is only a beta and while being much closer to a full release than 0.7.4 it will be rather lacking in certain areas, which we will certainly rectify in later patches.

It`s funny, it looks like the thing my sargent used to say on mountain marches... "Cheer up lads, we`re almost there, we`re almost there, the summit is just around the next turn". Off course, each time the MTF said that, the hills became taller, and the summit farther ... but each time, one had a little bit more of strenght on the legs to continue a bit farther.

But it was very nasty procedure of... "motivation". But it worked pretty good.

    Bye!

We realize you guys have been very patient, but as I noted in an earlier thread, v.80 is really 2 releases combined into one - the port over to 1.5 and the major new unit release. Lets put this in perspective. It took over a year to achieve the v.72 open beta, and another three months just to reach a fairly bug free version of that (v.74). We are approaching the six month window which would have been a realistic goal for the "combined release", but you have to realize that RTW v1.5 COMPLETELY DESTROYED the EB recruitment system, and by extension the governments it relied upon. It took a long time to get past the anguish and uncertainty and achieve a new system with the same flexibility and realism of the old, but it's safe to say that v1.5 resulted in months of rework.

We are not days or even a few weeks away. It is probably not many months, but we really won't know until all the new systems and scripts and units and recruitment are all in place and ready for testing. We hope that will be a short process, but RTW has a habit of throwing curves at us, so we'll have to see. As soon as we can make a legitimate forecast of the release date, we will endeavor to give you all a heads up.

So it's several weeks away like 5-13? :( Oh well, as long as it's out by my winter break I'll be happy.

Kull knows better than anyone how long this will take. But be sure, the longer 0.8 takes to come out the more polished secondary objectives, eg descriptions and other little extras, will be.

Disappointing; I can't play Europa Barbarorum .74, as Rome: Total War 1.2 simply will not run on my computer; something in the copy protection is conflicting with my CD-Drive's drivers, and so it crashes, over and over again. Quite the annoyance.

True. In many ways, v.80 is more like three releases than two or one. After v.80, we should be able to establish goals for the remaining pre-v1.0 releases, and forecast their completion with a high degree of accuracy.

We HATE leaving you guys in limbo, but the problems associated with the RTW 1.5 port make this release more comparable to v.72 than v.74. Large segments of the core EB system were rebuilt from scratch, and the time frames associated with testing , bug tracking and fine tuning are difficult to forecast.

    Thanks Kull and Foot
I'm glad some people these days still acheive truthfulness. My anguish was over the not knowing anything as opposed to just wanting it now (although that would have been very exciting). No I totally understand and with what all you guys are doing for this community all I can say is take your time and I'm sure your anguish dealing with 1.5 patch was far greater than mine, but I'm glad you guys were able to work around it. I think now though I have a better idea of where the process is so I thank you heartily and give my full support for the "make it as polished as possible" mentality. Alot of us are so excited about this release that it has a higher priority than M2TW as far as anticipation goes.
So anyway thanks for the updates and I will pray to both Baal and Wodan so that the rest of the process goes smoothly and RTW stops giving those damn curve balls.

if anyone else would like to add their favorite Gods to the prayer feel free. these are just my personal favorites.

Of course, EB members who do lots of descriptions and text work and other research have access to the ported 1.5 build. We should use that as motivation more often.

Don't get your hopes up there jim, one of the EB makers said in a thread once: If all goes well, 0.8 will be released in two weeks. (Or something of the sort)... I think it was Teleklos... Although i'm not sure.

Do you know when they said this Jim? 4 months ago! EB is a myth! It doesn't exist and it never did!
0.74 is simply a mind altering program that makes you THINK you are playing a super awesome mod.

Why do I get blamed for saying all the crazy stuff? I guess it's the sheer number of posts: "If some EB member said it, it was probably him..."

Well, anyway, 0.8 will be released in two weeks if all goes well.

Wait didn't kull just say it would probably be a little over a month?
and now you're saying just 2 weeks!!!

see this is why I get confused

So seriously about 2 weeks if all goes well?

my prayers to Baal and Wodan must have worked! I will go home tonight and sacrifice 6 milk white cows to each as thanks for their divine intervention

p.s. do I have to do anything with the entrails or can I just leave them on my lawn?

I personally appreciate the devs beign as sincere as you are by stating this...

It`s much more "fan friendly" (IMO) to say what the current situation is, no matter how bad or unpromising is. By this way, we know what to expect, and our expectations are set accordignly to the current situation.

Thank you for beign so straightforward to us, really appreciate.
