Well CrackedAxe, congratulations on a daring and well-described story. Tis a shame it's not entered the contest, but there's always next time.
I read recently about the Sacred Band and their last stand at Chaeronea, very inspiring. Archaeologists found 254 skeletons in neat rows buried beneath the field, disproving claims that all 300 died there, but maybe they were under strength on the day...

Thanks, Matteus, glad you enjoyed it. Yep, I read that too during my research into this, but for dramatic purposes, I had them all dying! Most of them did anyway, so it's not far from the truth.

And The Stranger, you didn't read the battle scene? Maybe you wouldn't think of them as so pink and fluffy when you read about how they fought, lol.

That was a marvellous story. I enjoyed it very much, very well told.

What a pity it wasn't in time for the contest.
