    Default Holiday picture thread

Since there doesn't seem to be one, i feel it is high time to start one !

Here are some pictures from my trip to Norway (was there for three weeks), quality isn't great, but I'm too poor to buy a decent camera and to busy to practise taking pictures.

    Never the less, enjoy !

Norway is beautifull isn't it. Love the Fjords, we should build some nature here as well. Hope you had a great time, cracked some viking mussel I trust?

    Sorry about that...

Pictures weren't bad at all, Doc. I'm no photographer, but I especially like the fourth one.

The fourth one is from Bergen, beautiful little streets in that city

Fagony: at least the Netherlands still have some decent bits of nature protected, Belgium is just filled with ugly houses all over (Flanders anyway). And I did have a very good time

They look somewhat grainy but still very nice. Great motives.
(It's not like I could afford a better camera, not to speak of holidays...)

Some places in the world are really great for taking pics it seems, I hope some day I can add my own holiday pics, good idea for a thread!

Okay, I finally got around to fixing up a few of the better pictures I took whilest in Canada a couple of weeks ago.

The first picture is a composite of three pictures in a burst mode of a young loon flapping his wings. The picture following it is the same loon, but this time he came in closer so I could get a nice detailed shot of him. For whatever reason, he/she is really swimming low in the water.

    Full moon on the lake:

Just a lake scene and an interesting cloud:

Norway, somewhere between Jotunheimen and Rondane, if you have any idea where that is

I noticed some of the pictures are small enough to be uploaded to imageshack without resizing, so here's a bigger version:

Too bad it wasn't me who took the last batch though. Maybe I should also mention that in total there were over 500 pictures taken, so picking a few good ones isn't that hard...

That said, great that you enjoy them ! Here are some more:

Parts I missed out on because I stayed with my (slightly) injured girlfriend, still great pictures, the second one is certainly a contender for 'best picture of the holiday' imho:

Some more pictures taken by me (I hate my crappy camera ) ImageShack seems to have resized some:

Despite the "crappiness" of your camera, there is still some excellent shots there .

Thanks, but my camera does have it's issues, its light measurement is pretty unreliable, I have to set it to +0.5 because otherwise all my pictures would turn out way too dark. It's still too dark at times though (in 'normal' environment, not when shooting in the dark). It has problems with capturing the 'true' colours, especially if there is a lot of green or blue in the picture. This might be related to the problem where some pictures just end up way too green like this one, this seems to happen pretty randomly:

It also lacks a macro and an optical zoom which is pretty annoying when you want close ups of things like flowers and animals (and okay, occasionally, people). I'll just assume it's focus issues are due to me having moved

But yes, it can still make some decent pictures for time to time, too bad I didn't take more pictures at one time, some nice opportunities were wasted

Oh, and thanks for the compliment

doc, there are several excellent shots in those pictures you posted. The photographer has more to do with the picture than the equipment does.

    Lake District hiking trip

During my short absence on the Org three weeks back, I spent some days walking through the Lake District in the U.K. I took about a thousand photographs, so I'd say it was time well spent. I selected a few of the better ones to show here. Unfortunatly, they turned out to be rather too large for the forum, so I'll just give you the links.

Day one: from Windermere to Coniston

Lake Windermere, taken from Bowness quay, facing north

Lake Windermere, taken at or near Blind High How. The houses on the other side is the twin town of Bowness and Windermere.

North of Hawkshead. I think this picture was taken at or near the Keen Ground, but I am not entirely sure as I took a wrong turn around here.

Coniston Water, from the Gondola quay at Coniston

Day two: scaling the Old Man of Coniston

Well, I didn't actually scale it. I was warned that it was a long climb, and that low clouds would obscure the view. To make things worse, the path wasn't that well-defined and thunderstorms were predicted, so when I got to Lever's Water I turned back. By the time I was down below again the clouds had cleared and not a single thunder was heard that day . Still, I took a few pretty shots that day, even though the clouds did not improve the view.

Coniston Fells, at the foot of the Old Man, facing north-west. Due to the clouds you cannot see the Old Man's peak, but it should be somewhere above the white house. To the right you can see Coppermine Valley.

    Coppermine Valley

And now for something completely different: I found this one lying on the middle of the path somewhere in the Coniston Fells. It doesn't appear to be injured, and was surrounded by sheep droppings. Perhaps it died from indigestion?

Kennel Crag, facing south-east and overlooking the Coniston Fells and Coniston Water.

    Lever's Water

And the last one I took in the aptly named Boulder Valley.

    Nice pictures

Too bad about the weather though, it must be even more marvellous when the clouds don't obstruct the view. Then again I like clouds too

Nice shots Ludens. It looks like you had a nice hike. Too bad about the weather not cooperating with your ascent on Old Man. With the elevation and the clouds clearing out, I'm sure the view would been beautiful. I like pictures like these as it is always interesting to see how the terrain differs from what I consider "normal".
