Historical info of Casse/Sweboz

I was just wondering from what sources the eb team has drawn their knowledge of the casse tribe and the Sweboz for that matter, which I assume are the early Suebi tribe that later established the germanic kingdom of swabia. I'm very interested in early northern tribes, but I assume most knowledge is archealogical.

I recall reading on this forum that the Casse were a plausible tribe in southern Britain that were involved with trade with the various Gallic tribes on the European mainland, indicated by various coins found from slightly later in the game's period.

The Sweboz are more than likely the Suebii, yes.

Yup, the Cassi are the proto Catuvellauni (“Battle Superiors” of renown in the 1st C AD).

The Cassi (allegedly related to the Atrebates) ..or Casse in Gaul, were a Belgae tribe that hailed from a position of considerable strength on the banks of the Seine, France; their capital being Durocatalaunum (Chalonge). When the Gallic Senones successfully reduced them to client status at the turn of the 3rd C BC, the Casse began to disperse, forming new tribes such as the Veliocasses, Baiocasses, Viducasses, Tricasses and Vadicasses. One notable group retained the original distinction of Cassi, crossed the channel and forged a kingdom in Britain north of the Thames with their capital at St. Albans. This is the Casse in EB.

..and yes, the Sweboz are the Seubi.

As to my understanding (I'm actually Ran's cousin, not Ranika, he's been away for some time), the Casse represent the proto-Catuvellauni, as Psycho said. They were chosen presumably because they apparently exerted authority over most of Britain by the time of the Roman invasions, and were effectively the most superior of tribes (and were actually pretty 'Gallic', as they were Belgae and had access to a lot of continental advancements), accounting possibly for the repulsion of Caesar (unlike the mainland Gauls, their army would have been quite intact and able to offer a reasonable amount of resistance; the Gauls were already decimated by war with eachother the Germans to my memory; Psycho may clarify or correct).

Usual sources, Cunliffe, Collis, Ellis and O’Hagan. University of Dublin has some particularly good material.

Can you access that information on the internet? If not, where could I find good info on the internet? I am writing Sweboz descriptions and am having a hard time with research.

if you've got a university or college library nearby, hit it up. I can get a wealth of info from the universities around here, and i dont even attend. They're very understanding of people doing research outta interest. Librarians too, very helpful. One lady found me a map of the aegian from 450bc, come on, thats pretty specific.

Lol the first thing that turns up for sweboz on google is europa barbarorum so dont expect to find anything usefull on the internet on them i think...
