Aizjan Felðuz\n(Field of Honor)
A game field provides a place for contests and sporting events to be held. These events can be a source of entertainment for the audience and contestants alike, and they help install a sense of pride in the people. According to Tacitus, games were held solely for the purpose of entertainment, and no prizes or rewards were given to the athletes. Tacitus also describes one sport that was that was played by the German peoples (in his
Germania): "They have only one form of public show, which is the same wherever they foregather. Naked youths, trained to the sport, dance among swords and spears that are levelled at them. Practice begets skill, and skill grace, but they are not professionals or paid.”
