Default Help choosing TWversion 2 Mod

    Hi all,
I spend the last two months getting to grips with basics of modding modelling etc.

I want to start building my mod now.

    My main question:

Which TW version should I mod, Rome TW or BI TW?

Two things to keep in mind:

    1) I want to use the bucellari (BI) model as a base for most of my models.
    2) I would like to use (and modify) the Senate(not as a playable faction) and its allies(RTW).

    So additional questions:
    - Can I transfer this BI unit to RTW?
    - Can I transfer the senate stuff to BI?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated (as always)!

BI has better terrain graphics and some extra options such as night battles. It's my choice for a modding base. The Senate will be your main issue.

No Senate in BI, and no real way of making one either.

I recall some threads a while back about using the BI exe file to run RTW. Is that actually possible and is it stable enough to be viable?

Hee it's Bwian! It seems like you're the only one that wants to help me!

I don't think it's possible to run RTW using BI.exe. Not logical. In that case: Why compile a seperate exe?
Still, I looked into it a little (maybe a command line option) but I couldn't find anything usefull.

Has anybody ever integrated a BI unit in RTW succesfully before?

I don't think it's possible to run RTW using BI.exe.
Just adapt your BI desktop shortcut so when you rightclick it target line reads:
    "xxxx\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -mod
when you activate that shortcut the BI.exe will play rtw imperial campaign (I think you may have to go through provincial campaign route to get to it) senate will work as usual unless you mod it.

See also explanation of getting RTW custom battles to work with BI.exe by TruePraetorian here.

I may be repeating myself here but I just want to make sure I understand what you say Makanyane.

If I do this I will also be able to use the BI units in the campaign?

Meantime I'll just try this, thx 4 feedback......

I created a new thread to follow up on this

Almost all feature work in RTW from BI except Swimming units, Hordes, Shieldwall, and dead factions coming back.

In SPQR and many other mods, Loyalty, Night battles, Recruitable Generals, and Named Legions can exist.
