if CA uses real people for the portraits it could be nice.
btw would it be nice if the General looks like his portrait?

I don't think it matters, it would be nice. It would be hard for me to figure out who was who?
I like the artwork - the RTW portraits are pretty good. I find it easier to get into character with artwork rather than photos. And photos might break the suspension of disbelief when inevitably the computer graphics elsewhere are not comparable. Moreover, few modern models would be convincing as Ancient or Medieval types. (Although having just watched the re-run of "I, Claudius", the cast of that show were pretty convincing.)
Artwork.
Having real pics would look crappy IMO, almost a low budget feeling over it.
It's already confirmed from screenshots it's the same style as RTW portraits, and I like it that way. Enough variety and interesting shots I suppose.
Yes, artwork. It gives the artists a bit of enjoyment amidst all the 128x128 ghastly-fuschia blocks
I didn't know they had cameras in the Medieval period!?

Artwork allows the imajination to do explore some possibilities. Photos just ruin the medieval theme for me, and they make it seem haff-assed.
Artwork, every time.
well i could go with real pics but then they would have to be really good quality and to find that many good models and to make them look realistic would be a hell of a waste of resources besides the artwork that i saw in rome was really good so artwork is the way to go.

What he said, 100%...
yeah i love the RTW portraits. way better than MTW or STW.

Either way (real pics or artwork) I'd just like to see a bit more variety rather than 30 pics of the same guy just with his head at a slightly different angle and a dafter expression on his face each time. Add a comedy beard or a carrot dangling from the ear just for variety or something!
I agree. It doesn't matter, as long as there is some variety. I was also wondering if it would be possible to make the princesses look a little more attractive too. Because the ones featured in the first version of MTW... well... they all look like variations of the Wicked Witch from the West.
i think they will, i have some memory of stopping the M2:TW "chapter 1 trailer" to examine the campaign mode and saw that the character card of the princess looked attractive or maybe it was that spanish priest that defeated the heretic... any way that priest looked cool.

Unless there is a way to produce a photograph of the ACTUAL person it is a waste of time. However I too feel the countless portraits of same person with slightly different pose are lazy if nothing else

Well, after having seen the unit cards in a couple of screenshots, if the portraits are going to be anything close to that, I'll be disappointed.

I always liked the Artwork, it was perfect for the models there was, if there was real pictures it would look nothing like the game's graphics
I loved the comedy uni-brows on the Muslim characters!
professorspatula 03:33 08-23-2006
Quite a few of the more recent screenshots show family members portraits as unit cards. Pretty much same as RTW, as you'd expect.
First chance I get, I'm definitely going to edit several of them and add assorted fruit and vegetables above the top lip of the male characters. Milord, what a dashing celery moustache you have! I'd add a clown nose, but that would just be stupid and non-historical to boot.
Beard of grapes...different man. That is so funny

Some fashion models for princesses. Other than that, nah....
