Darkarbiter I would be very careful who I said "just using samples" to it is offensive to musicians in that field and some of them don't take to kindly to it, and I can't say I blame them.Originally Posted by Darkarbiter

AK, he doesn't mind if he is offensive. That is how he gets his kicks around here. I don't buy that he doesn't understand there aren't whole orchestras performing for the various RTW mods, except ours of course. It's a good thing I don't have moderating abilities around here or most of his posts would be gone pretty quickly.

Darkarbiter, your comments are terribly misinformed. Sample libraries are widely used by professional composers for many projects, from video games to feature films.
Also, taking an image off of their site without their permission, transfering it to another server and posting that on a public thread is a violation of copyright (to my knowledge).
I don't like the overuse of samples generally, because a lot of professional composers sound really really fabricated and plastic, like for example Jeremy Soule, when they do that.
But what I've heard so far here is just great, I didn't even notice they used samples, even though it is obvious now that it's mentioned.
Between time constraints and the financial costs of hiring a live orchestra, perhaps some of you do not realize all that is involved for the composer. Not to mention sample libraries have come a very long way in the last few years. EB is trying to bring original music for it's players to hopefully enjoy.
I wasnt saying its bad its just i didnt know that and i may have been misinformed i was just wondering.

Great work by the composers here. I, like some others, especially love the Eastern Main Theme.
EDIT: Taken an example from Orb. There is music in those spoilers, be careful!

THE GODFATHER, PART 2
The Thread
Well, the Roman music was already posted earlier. By a dev.
Could someone link the barbarian piece? I'd like to hear it.
No one had better post any blasted pieces we have not previewed yet. Especially considering someone snooping around found one that wasn't released and posted it (briefly, till we yanked it down), I'm surprised that some of you would think it's kosher.
The Roman ones are fine. We've released them.
Meh meh meh!
Now look 'ere, buddies, the music is done by professional musicians, it's copyrighted and has all sorts of legal stuff about it. It's not one of us messing around with some shareware music software and a 10$ CASIO keyboard trying to mash up a tune. Treat that sort of thing seriously.
I'm still not here
my post has been edited.
Mea culpa.
At least I didn't post a link.

Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.
A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?
Didn't realise it was already posted. Ah well, at least I'm not ruining it for anyone.
THE GODFATHER, PART 2
The Thread
If Celts and Germans have unique music, you could add some music to Dacia also... traditional romanian music has alot of dacian elements in it, would be a good inspiration, but i suggest inspire from music from southern and south-central Romania that has the most traditional elements, also, not to forget Orpheus who was a Thracian, so the entire area had a rich musical tradition.Dacia should deserve unic music.
I have listened to some modern reconstructions of how the dacian music might have sounded...for battle music, the main instrument should be a sort of alpenhorn (tulnic in romanian), it was 100% sure used by dacians..
For the campaign map, I would say something combining cymbals and pan flute...
But that's the thing Rex, we can't have music unique to any one faction (unless their faction is the only one in a culture group). The barbarian culture group has to have a single theme.
Something that might interest fans here: I remember that the vote between using our last culture slot for either splitting the barbarian culture in two or the greek culture in two was a hotly contested one. A few more people and you might have had a celtic vs. sweboz/getai split in the barb culture instead of an "old greek" and eastern greek split that we have now. (one of the main deciding points was our ability to actually implement differences in game; we could mix some eastern and greek portraits to make that unique, and we already had a set of greek buildings with palms around them for building icons, and we could mix the eastern houses with some greek buildings in the cities too. But for the barbs we couldn't really have differences that were marked between the celtic vs. non-celtic barb buildings in icons or on the battlemap, and also we wouldn't have a portrait set that was different at all).
Hmm, interesting thing.
If the timeline of the EB would have extended well into our era, or at least shortly after the end of the Dacian Wars, splitting the thraco-dacians from the barbarian group would have been better in my opinion, (they where indeed, great differences compared to celto-germanic civilisation linguistically, culturally, religiously), howewer considering the fact that the game ends in 14 AD or so, splitting the greeks would have beem my choice also.
Whe , the unlucky having RTW 1.5 are waiting for the release![]()
Beautiful stuff of course!
My favorite themes are the Nomadic and Roman themes.![]()

Woah. Really, by the time I'm writing this I'm still only hearing the first theme (Hellene Main Theme) And it impresses me greatly. I can find a mixture of Battlefield 1942 Main Theme with Evangelis's "Conquest of Paradise". Very, very impressive
BLARGH!
Sorry for re-asking, but I think this question got caught up in the argument further up in the thread, but is there going to be a Celtic music preview before 0.8 is released?

It will be a barbarian music theme - not just celtic music. It has to work for all those factions, so we can't get too specific (which means it is a little different in that respect than our other themes maybe; as the others have a little more in common than these do probably).
