How well will a 256mb ATI Radeon X1600 play this game?

Nobody can answer that other than the developers, who aren't going to answer it, but IIRC, they've indicated that a card that played Rome well will be able to manage MTW2.

Based on the improvements they've made, I can't imagine that it would handle MTW2 as well as it handled Rome, but that's the only real comparison you can do.

first what kind of 1600 is it? as the X1600XT has got a memory frequency that's about twice as fast as the X1600Pro. any way the 1600 is the budget card of the X1*00 family so i think it would be able to run on about medium settings depending on resolution of choice ofcourse.

but this is just a guess based on what i have seen of the wngine such far and as stated above only the developers know for sure.

I think you will be able to play the game quite well.I've got a geforce 7600 gt 256 mb,which is actually better (up to 400 fps at call of duty 2 WOW )

wait for the demo to see for yourself. it's not a first person shooter so your card is more than good enough to run any game. the processor speed and how much memory is also very important.
ya can try CoD 2 demo as well. it's a great video card benchmarkin' tool IMO.
myself have an old GF 4 card and it runs both RTW and CoD2 great. I just don't get all the extra juicy visuals :)

Yes I agree, try some of the recent demo's or FPS games to test your card out.

I recently got Oblivion, just to test my grapgics card out, to see how powerful it was, and it flys through Oblivion, so it should have no problem with MTW2 (famous last words)

Its also an AGP card, and it still flys...

1024x768 , texture settings etc on extra , soften smoke edges on world only,VERY IMPORTANT : direct x7 because dx9 is screwed up in cod2 (with dx9 on i get 70 fps).Ow yea,btw,400 is MAX fps , i usually get 300 fps :P

Just as well I have ordered 2 GB 400 Hz RAM, and am about to order a PCI GeForce 7600 GT Graphics Card. Will RTW and MTW play well with that?

If you're going from onboard graphics, make sure your power supply unit is up to the challenge of that new graphics card. You'll want at least 350W for that beast. http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/326/4/. Although I imagine most PCs these days have a moderately hefty power unit. I wish mine did! (As well as numerous other modern and faster components.)

Anandtech did an article comparing video cards from as low as the x80gto x1600XT and 6600GT all the way up to the 7900GT and x1900xt. The scores that the x1600xt scored might give you an indication of relative performance in various games. Note that the tests were done on a Conroe x6800 CPU so expect lower performance than the numbers indicate.

Unfortunately, you will have to remember that Oblivion is as heavily CPU limited as anything else - i know from experience
