Question Renaming a city (Upon Conquest)

The last few days I've been thinking about my future 0.8 campaign its not like I think EB will come out this weekend just that I have been using the Arche Seleukeia preview images as a slide show screensaver at work so my mind has wandered onto that subject

With the move to the 1.5 version of RTW it will become possible to rename cities it would be nice if there was some sort of guide so people could do this while remain true to EB's naming system

For example I like to role play the game I add a character at the start that is "me" in this case the character name is Andronikos if i where to name a city after this character would it be Andronikeia? or would I be better off just learning ancient greek?

I didn't know this was possible. Is it possible?

It is possible - there was another thread about it somewhere.

The only question is what this would do to the scripting: is the scripting based on region rather than settlement?

Humm I didnt think of that either

Either way it is quite simple to do there is an option in the preference file somewhere down the bottom "change settlement name: true" or something similar by default it is set to false in 1.5 but once you change it all you have to do is click on a settlements name in the settlement scroll and type away.

If it didn't alter scripts, I'd help supply Greek names. But I think it might mess it up. Learning Greek itself won't necessarily help you with place names though - the best thing I would advise would be finding a 19th century English->Ancient Greek dictionary. University libraries often have them. They can give you names for lots of places and peoples very quickly and easily.

Then I certainly hope it doesn’t mess things up but if I had to bet money...

I work in the city so it shoudnt be that hard to find one I'll see what titles they come up with.

I'm 90% sure that it won't affect scripts. Scripts work by using the internal name of cities and characters, rather than the "displayed" name that we see. Changing a city's name in-game is akin to simply editing the displayed name in the text files but leaving the internal name the same.

For those who are wondering how to get this feature working with 1.5 and 1.6, go to your preferences folder and open preferences.txt. At the very bottom of the file there should be an entry for EDIT_SETTLEMENT_NAMES or something similar. Change it to true and you'll be able to change settlement names in-game in the building/recruitment browser (simply click the settlement name at the top of the scroll).
