multiple cities in a province

I once saw a screenshot of some info parchment with some pieces of Northern France and Flanders visible. There were several cities visible, among them Bruges and Antwerp. I made a comment that I hoped that Ghent would also be included as a city (bigger and more important than Antwerp). Someone told me that every province only had one city/settlement (Antwerp would then be in another province which I find strange).
Today I saw a screenshot of Egypt with Alexandria and another city more in the center (I think it was Caïro but I'm not sure). Both cities had different faction banners but I couldn't see any clear province boundaries.

So will there be multiple settlements (castles or cities) in a province?

Hmm, I doubt it. What would the advantage be?

It would be cool if other settlements were shown on the campaign map (like I attempted to do with my Farming Villages mod for RTW), but to have them occupiable? I don't see why they'd do it.

To bad. It would've beeninteresting gameplay wise to have to defend different settlements in a single province. Furthermore it would make certain provinces more valuable than others. Besides it would be historical accurate for some regions to have multiple important cities (think of Flanders and Italy)

Dude, I don't think Ghent (or Gent in dutch) was more important then Antwerp.Antwerp was one of the biggest port-cities in that time,and nowadays I surprisingly see that some people know Antwerp and not Brussels(the capital btw).

It would be boring to have multiple cities in one province - the AI would never be able to defend them all effectively, and so you'd get a tonne of boring sieges against rubbish armies

Hoetje: Let's not start a discussion on this. But if there were more setlements in one province, Gent would have as much right to be depicted as Bruges and Antwerp.

Dampieke: Every change in gameplay would be boring if the AI wasn't up for the challenge. One could say the new map in RTW is boring in comparison to the MTW risk map because the AI isn't capable enough.

my dear friend,

Gent was definately more important than antwerp until +/-1450. In the 13th and 14th century it was the second biggest city north of the alps and pyrenees, next to Paris. At its height, it had 65000-80000 inhabitants.
