What's up with all the Gold Rush ads? It seems to pop up everytime I got to a different page in the Org. It's just really annoying and it seems to be happening quite often now.![]()
What browser are you using? I don't have any
i noticed this also... they appear at random times in heaps and then disappear for a while... very annoying
I got one while viewing this page.
Seriously though, tis a problem.
THE GODFATHER, PART 2
The Thread
Never seen any here.
IE6 on XP w/SP2 + Google toolbar w/google popup stopper + PestPatrol + AVG antivirus + AdAware + SpybotS&D. Also have IE set to clear temp cache & history on close.
This is October. In the previous 9 months of 2006, 5 (five) popups have made it thru while I've surfed the Org. I'm certain of that number, because I recorded the sightings. Your mileage (and browser & defense measures) may differ.
Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.
I can't recall getting any popups at all at the Org. The only protection I use against popups is Mozilla Firefox.
Ha! I take it back. Just got "Gold Rush - AOL" popup 3 times, and I've been to BBC.com and here this session - nowhere else. The black box obscures text for about 10 seconds; then a left-click anywhere else on the browser makes it disappear. Annoying for that 10 seconds, tho'.

Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.
A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?
Yes it is amazingly annoying. I was tempted to change my personal Org UI to DialUp or Lite (they hide adverts). And belive me they do look dull and boring...

You should PM Admin and see if they can get rid of it. It's either them advertising to get money to pay to keep the forums running or its vBulletin advertising to get themselves money. I don't understand why people advertise, I never click on them and I don't think half the world does either.Originally Posted by Csar
Actually, it's the host who places the advertisements, in exchange for letting us use the space on which the forum is hosted. The administrators have little control over the ads.Originally Posted by Matthius Julius
I got the pop-up a couple of times on the university network, but the not on my homecomputer. This may be because I use Firefox, while the university uses IE.

I use Firefox, and with that Spyware Blaster, I get nothing, I feel neglected
Same here, although quite frankly I'm fine with it.Originally Posted by Stig

Ah well! It could be worse. Does anybody remember the mosquito advert. That one where you had to kill the mosquito with the zapper to win a "Free Plasma TV". It was not the nature of the advert that made it annoying, it was the accursed sound over and over again that would just not shut up, even if you tried to kill the wretched thing!
And does anybody remember the Mate1 advert, now that was just unacceptable and was on the border line of been an explicit image! If anybody had posted that image on the forums that would probably have got them at least one warning point!
If I was a close friend of yours, I would slap you with Google. I love such serious questions very much. And I love slapping friends with Google.Originally Posted by Csar

Never noticed it myself, but I think that refers to an old version of Firefox. We really need to update the frontpage.Originally Posted by Caius Flaminius

We can add announcements quite easily, but that's something else than updating the frontpage.Originally Posted by Caius Flaminius
