Thread: The most minor "mistake"

There is something in EB that has been bothering me for some reason, yet it is the most minor thing in the game.

On all the loading screens, the motto "Quisque est barbarus alio" is grammatically incorrect, as I recall.

I know Latin is very loose in grammatical structure, but if one wants to nitpick, verbs should go at the end of the sentence customarily.

Thus, it should be "Quisque barbarus alio est."

Yeah, I know its minor, but I had to say something about it so it would stop bugging me.

You will find that this is in fact not a mistake, but I'll let TA explain (or anyone else who pops in).

Verbs can go pretty much anywhere. You'll find more often than not they appear at the end (whether or not it's the last word) of the sentence, but there is certainly no reason to say that the latin motto is incorrect. I will also add that when you have predicate nominatives (or adjectives) often (I'd hazard "usually" even) the form of the verb 'to be' (here 'est') is found in between the subject (here 'quisque') and the predicate (here 'barbarus'). It's not that you are wrong - your statement is correct, that latin usually has the verb at the end. But there are tons of exceptions and it can vary just by stylistic choices also. Keep learning latin though!
