    Default stretched screen

Just got alexander, clean windows install, all patches done, ready to roll, but when i start up the game it appears that its stretched and i have half a screen on my monitor. Somehow it appears that it wants to have two monitors, as i manually move it using the monitor controls the picture is cut in half. Any answers?

    C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War

If you want with the default install that's where the folder should be

    Then open preferences.txt

go to the third line down

    SAFE_REFRESH:TRUE
    USE_TRIPLE_BUFFER:TRUE
    USE_WIDESCREEN:FALSE

And if widescreen is set to true that's your problem. I think this option is also selectable from the fraphical options within game. Anyways if that's not the case more details would be needed.

The 84.21s always worked good for me. Funny thing is after having read about this issue, I was very hesitant to upgrade until trying to play another game last night that reported having the best FPS under the 91.31s, so updated and had no issue what so ever with RTW afterwards.

I've been looking for it, because I know I read the solution on a forum somewhere, but can not find it. IIRC, it has to do with driver settings that NVidia sets to default, and seem to recallit has to do with something in the 'desktop management' section of the driver settings. But then I also recall most of the people reporting this issue are using the FX 59xx and below cards, and I recently upgraded to a 7800GS, so maybe thats why I've had no issue with it.

As a developer, and a PC builder on the side, I hate these kind of issues.
