Default Problem while modding- Pop growth

Hi there, this will be my first post.

I've just started messing around with mods for RTW, I started off by using Mundus Magnus 3 installed onto RTW 1.5

The mod worked flawlessly for my first run through it, so I decided to spice things up a bit and add the Law bonus to Academies and Walls, which was supposed to be included but wasn't working for some reason.

Started up a new game as Macedon and noticed my population growth in all my cities was between -1% and +1%

Naturally, I found this strange, but I remembered reading that some regions had altered farming, and figured maybe the creator had severely lowered the farming potential of Greece. Since my previous campaign had never gone to Greece, I just continued on and tried to take some lands I knew were perfectly good in my previous game.

Sadly, after I took those regions, they still had a low pop growth. It seems I was still getting my monetary bonus from farming, but my pop growth was just low. I decided to run the following tests:

-Started a few other campaigns on the MM map, all had little to negative pop growth.

-Started an Imperial campaign, still had little to no pop growth

This leads me to believe something in the common files is wrong. I've been trying to find something in the coding that would affect pop growth, but I might just be missing it. I tried looking around through the threads here but haven't found anything yet. In any case, I'll keep looking, but does anyone have any ideas?

Actually, it looks like I might not even be getting the proper income from farming:

I just started up Julii on med/med on Imp campaign to run some tests and at very high tax rates in Arretium and Ariminium they have an income of -98 and -315 respectively. Now I can't test my unmoded version without reinstalling, which I'd like to avoid, but that seems very low to me.

Current income from farming is 80 in each city with a Land Clearance.

Ok, did some more checking in the game with that Julii campagin. I noticed that under the population growth bonuses there was only a +0.5 bonus for having a land clearance. I sent my armies strait north and took Patavium on turn 2. There was no Land Clearance built there yet and it has NO bonuses to growth or farming income AT ALL.

So, all my cities are receiving no base farming values at all, only those from improving the farmlands, so every city is effectively the same.

I assumed there was something wrong with descr_regions, so I checked it. In the Imperial Campaign folder the file is missing, however the trade goods are still present on the map. In The Mundus Magnus and Sons of Mars folders the file is still there, and everything seems to be listed properly.

I'll post more after I find anything else out.

Well, I reinstalled patch 1.5, re-added the mm3 files, and I seem to have a base farming level back in settlements on new games.

Still have no clue what had happened, and I'm curious to know, but at least it's working again.

Ok, I found the problem, but I don't understand how it can be a problem. After fixing it, I wanted to switch around my buildings again. I started by adding the law bonus to the walls again. Tested it, worked fine.

Then, I wanted to change who can build the various roads. Basically, I like shifting everyone up, so those that cap at making paved roads can build up to highways and everyone can build paved roads. Not realistic, but I just have more fun when I can make better roads as barbarians/easterners.

Anyway, I had done this on a vanilla install before with no problems, just cut and paste the people that can build paved roads onto highways and the people that can build roads onto paved roads. After doing this and starting up my cities have no base farming values.

So, I recoded it back to the way it was, and the cities have a base farming value again.

Guess I'll just have to deal with the standard roads, but I still don't understand how that happened to begin with.

Well I'm afraid I don't know why it's behaving like that but I'd like to say two things:

    1 Welcome to the .org

    2
In the Imperial Campaign folder the file is missing
The Imperial Campaign takes half it's files from the Base folder (a couple of levels up). That folder contains the default campaign files. If a file doesn't exist in a campaign folder, it gets it from the Base folder.

If you ever want to edit the Imperial Campaign, just copy the descr_strat.txt from the Base folder to the Imperial Campaign folder and edit away.
