Is it at all possible to have different sets of generals portraits for two factions that are in the same culture? If so how??
Had tried making a UI/faction folder in addition to UI/culture ones but that didn't do anything.

Not by any method I know - A:TW might open up some possibilities there but otherwise each faction has a culture from which it maps its portraits and they cannot be specified within that folder or factionally.
