Thread: Appeal for more factions

    Default Appeal for more factions

#1.I think the holy orders should be included as independant factions:

The knights of St-john held territory in rhodes, cyprus, malta and in the black sea. The teutonic knights had two major wars with the Polish state and were an independant state in the baltics after they transferred their headquarters from italy, the knights templar had commaderies all over western europe.

in terms of gameplay i think they should have the barbarian horde type of mobility as we see in BI. this reflects the vagabond nature of the knights hospitaler and teutonic knights before they finally settled in malta and marienburg.

#2 similarly Khwarazm Persia was a powerful state before its destruction by Genghis khan, and many refugees of this state took part in battles in the middle east as mercenaries, perhaps this could make an appearance as a muslim ' horde-type' of faction.

#3 how about mini factions, ie rebel factions u can negotiate with but do not have enough dynastic longevity so revert to 'gray' rebels after the last heir dies out, i'm thinking about the hussites, burgundy, the russian principalities, cumans etc.

    ....maybe in the expansion

I don't mind so long as the limit CA places on maximum factions allowed is near the 50 mark, so more can be modded in if need be.

EDIT: What I wrote before made no sense.

Adding more powers in the current framework of AI will further dilute the ability of the AI to offer a challenge.

Why is there such a seemingly low limit to factions? Inthe days of DOS there were very strict limits due to memory usage. I don't imagine that it is the case now.

Actually it is. That's why RTW had a hard code on the total number of factions. And probably why M2TW will too.

I like the idea of including holy orders as independent factions -- perhaps as mini-factions with extremely limited territories, but highly advanced units.

The difficulty IMO would be programing them to interact with the player and other factions in a somewhat historically accurate manner, and befitting their somewhat unique goals and objectives (i.e. not necessarily seeking to build a kingdom).

Otherwise, they would be just another Catholic faction with a special name --something I would find somewhat disappointing.
