Default Should I Get RTW, or wait for MTW2?

RTW looks really good, but since it always crashing and so slow on my PC I went to MTW.
Plannin to get a new computer, should I get RTW or wait for the divinely ordained MTW2?

I'd say you should wait for reviews of MTW2 and buy your game of choice AFTER ;)

ahh, thanks for the advice friend.

I often see ppl posting that RTW gets boring after a while and they end up going back to MTW, is that true?

Well, I found RTW got boring pretty quickly (on only the second campaign, actually). I can't say I went back to MTW, but previously I did play MTW for a lot longer.

However, then I tried some of the major realism mods for RTW and my opinion changed completely. Rome Total Realism and Europe Barbarorum make the gameplay in RTW match that of MTW, but are graphically and historically much more impressive.

I'd strongly recommend RTW+BI if you are prepared to try mods.

M2TW may be better out of the box than RTW, as CA has had time to fine-tune the engine.

If you have to choose between the two I would recomend getting M2TW, it's only a few months till release and it will no dount be a far more fulfilling gaming experience. No matter what neysayers have posted, it looks immersive and fun which is really what you want.

However If you can get both, then do, RTW and BI are really cheap now so its worth forking out if you're into it. RTR is a great MOD and its 7.0 biuld is coming out soon, and that looks fantastic, then there is NTW2 which is IMHO the best thing that ever happened to RTW.

But its really just you're choice.

Get both, but if you have to get one, get R:TW for now. It will at least give you a new time frame to play around in since you've had M:TW all this time and make sure you get the mods for it(EB, RTR, BL, NTW2, etc.), and then later on if you want get MII:TW then by all means, and by then the great modders here at TWC and elsewhere should have some fantastic mods released for it.

It depends on your budget. If you´ve got the 20€ to spare I´d say give the RTW+BI Gold pack a try. Personally, I happen to like the vanilla game (I just made enemies - but why should I care?) and there are loads of mods to keep you busy for ages. Waiting for MTW2 might prove a risk, if it doesn´t live up to your expectations and there won´t be any mods for it for quite some time.

Hmm, pennies...my coffers are a bit stale at the moment. They will replenish for the time being. For favourite historic period, hmm Im at a split between the Medieval Age and the Age of Antiquity.
The late Antiquity is quite interesting (ROMANS!, or most commonly termed as the Byzantines, but really it is the same thing, trust me)

But really Im kinda leaning towards Antiquity times.
After the Medieval Ages, history to me has gotten 'blah' .

Well, since there's going to be some time before reviews and forum goodies about MTW2 come out, get RTW first. It is much cheaper, and it certainly is worth the money at the price it's selling right now. I bought it for 50$ in the early days and never looked back -- and those are the buggy days, and the days without the fantastic mods that we have now. RTR is pushing to 7.0 and EB is pushing to 0.8, both of which hold great promises on their own.

RTW Gold is pretty cheap for what you get, the patches have helped the game, and there are some great mods out.

Nobody knows how good M2TW will be. I'd say wait for reviews (especially community reviews) and then make up your mind.

If you do not have many Total war games I would actually suggest getting the Eras pack. it has everything and i found it at a relativley good price from the cd store I got it from. If you do have many then I would suggest You buy RTW simply because a collected set looks much better than one with a few games here and there, Also if your funds are somewahe stretcehd I sy get RTW ASAP and save for M2TW, They are both two different games that will offer you two amazing gaming styles.

M2TW will have elephants with friggin' cannons on them ! Elephants with cannons ! What can be better than that ? Maybe sharks with friggin' lasers attached to their heads, maybe. But still, Elephants with cannons !!!

I bought RTW Gold for around £17.00, which hardly breaks the bank. I'm sure that in the US it's cheaper, like $20.00 or no?

I'd say listen to econ21's and others advice, and go for RTW/BI.

I don't know why people are so down on BI - it's a great expansion. The strategic situation is totally different from RTW, with lots of variety - from besieged Roman empires to marauding hordes. Only the Sassanids have a set-up anything like a standard RTW faction. Out of the box, I think the WRE campaign is as interesting as any vanilla TW campaign - especially with some houserules.

The skins are not so hot, I agree, but that is easily solved with mods such as Goth's all factions mod or IBFD. Skins such as those of Attila Reloaded and other modders are rather sweet:

I never noticed a problem with the general's speeches, although you get to a point where you just click past them.

Strategically, there is quite a lot of freedom for most factions. For example, in our WRE PBM in the Throne Room, we imposed a houserule that WRE should conquer ERE but leave the barbarians alone. Alternatively, you could spend your time conquering neighbouring factions. Some of the hordes have a lot of freedom how they carry out their objectives - for example, the Vandals have to go from the east to Spain, Carthage and Rome; quite the grand tour.

I haven't noticed a problem of clone units - the armies are quite varied. Saxons are almost all infantry; Huns almost all cavalry; Sassanids and Romans have varied and powerful line ups etc.

A big selling point of BI is that several excellent mods are designed for it - notably the forthcoming RTR 7.0.

I'd wait for MTW2. Though everyone on these fora seems to already have a downer on it - at least they aren't yet certain that it will disapoint them. RTW already has done that.

If you don't mind the silliness of RTW then even still I'd wait for MTW2 because it won't be any sillier and at least the graphics will be much better looking.
Bah! What would I want with that?

I bought my RTW/BI for cheaper than I'd pay for RTW in a high street, hence why I said BI. As to whether it's any good or not, I can't say as I've never played it.

I have read about the problems with the skins, in particular, and that does seem like total sloppiness. RTW was also a total mess when first released. Alexander has also been referred to as "unfinished" so this does not bode well for M2TW which is why many people are already so negative about it.

With M2TW, will we also be waiting for four or five patches before they finally get it right? This is why I think people shouldn't simply wait for M2TW. I for one will be buying it much later than the release date.
