Well it is a jumpy time at the moment... It is a bit of a ridiculous situation but Im sure the praying could have been put back a couple of hours and Im sure the lurching wasnt necessary either.
There is enough blame for all parties to go around, the air lines lack of sensitivity and the jewish persons lack of lack of timing for starters.
Are jews not capable of fundementalist acts?

Maybe if the Hasidic Jew had physics training he would understand that praying has no effect on the lift mechanism of air having to flow further over the topside of a wing. His prayer was insulting the workmanship of the manufacturers and the abilities of the aero-engineers.
Seriously, flight freaks a lot of people out and if it makes someone feel a little bit more in control and hence comfortable they should be allowed all the illusions of such that prayer provides. So let him have his prayers and let the kids have their teddy bears.
I do believe that most people who are going to pray for a safe flight would do it when they are on the plane, and ready to takeoff.Originally Posted by lancelot
This "lurching" which apparently did not bother passengers according to a passenger but rather a flight attendent who then made the claim that other passengers were getting "nervous" is a quite common Jewish practice. Shokeling anyone?
This is where our viewpoints are irreconcilable. I do not hold the Jewish passenger at all responsible for his prayer, nor do I think it "untimely". It's quite natural to pray right before a plane is about to take off.Originally Posted by lancelot
An irrelevant point as this person certainly is innocent of any "fundamentalist" (never heard this term used in this way before; maybe "extremist" or "terrorist") acts. Besides, any adherent to any ideology is capable of criminal/violent acts...Originally Posted by lancelot
Maybe if Papewaio would remember that the plane is at the mercy of nature, which in Orthodox Judaism is in the control of God, he would not jump to such sarcastic remarks.Maybe if the Hasidic Jew had physics training he would understand that praying has no effect on the lift mechanism of air having to flow further over the topside of a wing. What kind of Occasionalist is he anyway...?![]()
But then again, let him deny this and rely simply on the limited venue of sensory perception for his paradigm...![]()
I'll be trenchantly acerbic to one and all, particularly to those I like. It's part of my belief system to question everything, so stop oppressing my thought system!
And that limited sensory input (ignoring all the rigour of logic, stats, maths, error checking and experiments which extend it) lead to the internet and man made flight... it is referred to as man made not gawd made after all.![]()

Okay, new rules:
- No Beards
- No Dark Skin
- No non-English Gibberish
Have a safe flight.

I should open some kind of "get ready for flight" studio on airports where people can get their beards cut off and their skin lightened. In addition, we can also teach them some english prayers.Originally Posted by Dâriûsh

Isn't anyone capable of fundementalist acts? Are jews not capable of fundementalist acts?
Has anyone else here flown on El-Al ?
It really is something wonderful to experience , they would be a bit buggered though if they tried to stop people praying .
I do wonder though if the pilot has to make allowances for an often sizable number of his passengers making their way to one end of the plane to perform their religeous observations .![]()
How big are the odds of someone planning a terrorist attack being so obvious about it ?
Silly story from the Netherlands :
a person walked around for several hours in a white robe (can't recall the proper name at the moment) with an(obivously) fake bomb-belt around his waist and a sign saying "sex bomb" around his neck. He did this on "lowlands" the biggest music event in the Netherlands.
After a while security alerted the police, which started a massive manhunt. The security alert was raised and security checks at the countries largest airport were increased. It turned out to be a stunt from a promotion agency.
I haven't found a link in English yet.
Abandon all hope.
Hey, a suicide sex bomb is not to be trifled with.
...another little victory to Al-Qaeda or whoever.![]()

Im wondering since there are prescribed times for muslims to pray if they would be rquired to pray on a plane and if they would have to face Mecca? Is it ok to ask a muslim not to pray on a plane? I just watched United 93 and must say the scenes of the Muslims praying were actually very disturbing to me. In fact the most disturbing part of the film as it showed just how fanatical these people are. Should Muslims be singled out in this matter? Should christians be prevented from praying on planes?

I must add that on all the arab/muslim airlines I have never witnessed anything like El-al , which is without as doubt the second best airline I have ever flown with .
I would suppose that many incidents of "praying" on planes would not refer to the actual ritual prayers of Judaism and Islam, but rather just a little "God keep me safe" prayer.Originally Posted by Gawain of Orkeny

I think praying should only be stopped if they are meant to be seated at the time, otherwise during the flight there should be nothing wrong with it. Though maybe the person could tell the crew, just so that they know.
Blasphemy, did you try Emirates?
They lacked the singing dancing cabin crew .

awesome ? it was brilliant , the only downside (unless you don't like Kosher food ) was the extra security , but that is pretty much the norm on any airline now .
