Question Changing weapons from one unit to another

I am trying to change the primary weapon of the vanilla Nile spearmen to the sword used by the Eastern standard-bearer.
I have already added the sword to the model, BUT I have no idea how to attach it to the correct bone and make it the primary weapon .
Could someone PLEASE tell me how to do this (step by step; pretend I'm a dumbass ). Any help much appreciated.

This is a quick tutorial I made for a Spanish forum. I put only the images with brief explanations. If you need more details, I will put them tomorrow:

    Parte 1: Weapon "library"

Select the weapon (in this case the bow) and "Save selected".

This is the aspect of the max file of the weapon:

Part 2: Delete elements in the model

Select the weapon: Edit -> Delete.

Try to save any step you make:

    Part 3: Weapon addition

In the model without weapon: File -> Merge

Select the max file of the weapon (in this case a shickle), and then select only the weapon.

Auto-rename if the model keeps the same (primary or secondary) weapon, and rename it after that.

    "Use scene material":

Reparent to the same bone it was linked in the original model (Yes).

    Result:

    Now select material (M):

    Unwrap UVW and edit:

You can use part of the original skin or modify the texture to improve the final result.

Then you need to change the skeleton in descr_model_battle.txt.

    I hope this helps.
