Default I think this is where this goes...

Ok, I bought the Total War eras package at Game Stop at the mall. It seems to have a bunch of problems (or my computer is not backwards compatable. my question is, is it possible to return it to them for either a refund or store credit? I think I want to get Elder Scrolls oblivion and that is 10 bucks cheaper than the package. Does anyone know their policy on this? I just bought it not not even 5 days ago.

Do you think the Golden Rule should apply to masochists as well?

I think you'd be best off asking the store on their return policy, or looking at their website.

Get some old fart to take it back to the shop on your behalf, and have them ask the shop assistant if they could return the game, as they bought it for their Grandson's Nintendo X-Station for his birthday, and the disc won't fit into the memory card slot, and thus it won't play. How could any half-decent and caring assistant refuse the old dear when she's clearly confused and upset to let her grandson down (who incidently the entire rest of their family died in a freak boating accident only the other week) ? Everyone knows old people have no idea about the difference between a CD and a DVD, let alone different game formats, so you should get store credit if nothing else or the store is blatantly taking advantage of a confused and vulnerable customer.

You could try for yourself, but many stores these days are loath to allow people to return PC games because they're complete ("annoying turds" - self censorship activated) and give some rubbish spiel about piracy, but honestly, how many pirates do you see in a software shop? I've certainly never seen a suspicious looking man with a peg leg and parrot on his shoulder in any such shop I've been to so I think they're just making it up.

Good luck with your return. Try not to cave in immediately if they try to fob you off though.

A lot of shops do have a 24hour return policy, with these things you best react ASAP.

Actually it's quite simple. When you open the box, always open it from the bottom, using preferably a straight edge razor or knife. Now carefully cut along the inner groove so that when you cut across the heat tape you make as straight of a line as possible.

Open Box, remove game, play as you will. Put Game Back in the box and seal the heat tape on the bottom using a small line of any clear drying glue. Now, the used box should look like it's never been used.

Most retailers will give a refund on any software the hasn't been opened, if they become suspicious, and open the box to find the wrapper is missing around the CD/DVD case, play innocent and say, well it must've been packaged that way because you NEVER opened it. Because in retail, specifically, costumer service, the Costumer is always right and cannot be openly accused of foul play.

Now you've played your game, beat it or got tired of it, and you want a different game. Just use this strategy, and wa-laa you've got 50 extra dollars to buy a new game. Congratulations Mates. Drinks all around. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

Or else buy at EB games. They have a one week no-questions asked return policy. At least, around here they do.

I think if you open it up you can still return it but you can only get store credit.
