Default The Brutii and Cassius Brutus

Started a new game today as the Brutii for the first time ever. Usually I go the Julii (I have a thing about Romans being in red uniforms). Have to say Im loving it.

Cassius Brutus, favourite son of the Brutii, on request of the cursed Senate, marched upon the Greek City of Thermon. He was met outside by another Greek force, and having limited time to take the city was forced to take on two armies.
A terrible battle it was. Outnumbered two to one and fighting uphill, Cassius Brutus was defeated though escaped with his life and escaped into Macedonian territory. It is the only Famous Battle in the history of the Brutii. Damn the Senate! They were not pleased at Cassius' defeat. Cassius who had had no quarrel with the Greeks and was merely doing his best to please the Senate.
To add insult to injury, upon retreating into Macedonian land, Cassius received a swift letter from the Senate demanding that he leave Macedonian held country at once!
Cassius became a bitter man after all this humiliation and the pettyness of the Senate. He came to despise the Greeks and turned to alcohol. Now he haunts the site of his infamous defeat, gathering mercenaries for the time that he marches once more upon Thermon and claims it for the House of Brutii. He does this not for the Senate, who can burn in Hades, but for himself!

It says he's working on becoming a drunk -- not stupid. Have him fleet down to Kydonia, pick up some useful mercs, take the burg for the glory of its vineyards and then, loaded with cretans -- which the buggering Greeks don't buy enough of themselves -- and come back. Meanwhile, you can get Tarrentum to crank out a couple of dog units. Nothing says "lovin'" to peltasts/peasants like a few dozen dobermans.

Cassius Brutus died not by a Greek hand but by the treacherous Macedonians. That was tragic. But there were darker days to come.

Peace with the Greeks came at last and it was now the Macedonians who were the target of the Brutii family. They took all but one of my regions across the Aegean and none of my Generals seemed capable of dealing with their disciplined armies.
However a hero arose. Quintus the Wrathful. He earned his title in his very first battle. He stayed in Italy for years training up a truly awesome force. Once they were ready, he sailed across the Aegean determined to stomp out the treacherous Macedonians.
He just landed his forces when he was met by a mighty Macedonian army led by one of their most famed generals. It was truly a clash of the titans. But Quintus the Wrathful absolutely annihilated them! So much so, that his force was still powerful enough to reclaim the Brutii lands from the Macedonians.
His next move as an assault on a city which had once been a thriving Brutii settlement. Again, Quintus was evenly matched in number and quality of troops and general. And again the battle went spectacularly.
That is until the last of the Macedonians were cowering in the town centre. His forces assailed them, and not being fearful of danger himself, he charged in.
It shouldn't have happened but by some miracle, a pathetic Macedonian archer struck Quintus a deathblow. Then there was chaos as my army fled all over the place, running into each other and the remaining Macedonian hoplites.
In the end the battle was won. Not the overwhelming victory it should have been but a pathetic shambles of a victory. The surviving Romans could not even constitute the smallest of forces.

Now don't misjudge me. Ive had plenty of girlfriends, friends and a good social life. But when Quintus the Wrathful fell, I could have cried. It just should never have happened. He was the one chosen by the gods to free the Brutii from its oppressors. He should have lived and had many glories to his name.

Now the Brutii family have but two sons left. One of them, aged only sixteen, is assembling an army to march upon the Macedonians. But these are black days and I am deeply upset by the death of Quintus the Wrathful. Deeply.

Light Lancers swarm like locusts and eat swordsmen. Rent spears.

Is your tag-line supposed to read "rogue" instead of <rouge>?
