    Default The Horde

What is it? I know you can play it with the MI campaign but it seems you can also fight them in the Sengoku Jidai period. Is this true? How do they come about?

Do you think the Golden Rule should apply to masochists as well?

I assume you mean 'The Mongol Horde'. Historically: led by Kublai Khan the Mongols sent a fleet to invade japan, but their fleet was nearly totally destroyed in a storm, so they never managed to capture japan. (they did create a big empire.. from china/korea all the way to poland/hungary.) All this happened somewere between 1000-1300 roughly.

When you have MI/WE you can indeed play a campaign in which you are the Hojo, you have all of Japan and the mongols land and try to conquer your lands. It's a scenario like 'What if the mongol fleet was not destroyed in a storm - who would've won?' However the mongols don't play any role in the 1530, 1550, 1580 or Sengoku Jidai campaign.

Is it possible you are thinking about the Hojo Horde? The Hojo clan tended to become very powerful in Sengoku Jidai campaign

Except for when you played Uesugi/Takeda... then they never seemed to come off the ground.

Could be right though... or the 'Mori Horde'? That one was formed literally every time I played Hojo/Uesugi.

The Hojo Horde from the original Shogun. Essentially, the when Hojo Horde controls the East and they throw a never-ending stream of stacks of units at you every turn (and the border provinces are literally full of stacks). I believe they removed it with a patch.

Never seen it happen with another clan though.

Hojo and Uesugi both did the horde thing in the original. It was the singlemost annoying "feature" of that release as far as I was concerned.

The Mongol hordes in Warlord Edition/Mongol Invasion are a separate campaign from the Sengoku Jidai campaign. When you first launch a game, it shows the Sengoku campaign by default. At first they're easy to miss, but there are little arrows to the left and right of the map that's shown. If you click on these, you will be presented with additional campaigns that you can play: 1530, 1550, 1580, and Mongol Invasion. They're all different, and add a very nice set of options to Warlord Edition/Mongol Invasion that weren't available in the original Shogun. Could this be what you're missing/asking about?

    Concentrate on purity of intent
While those around you are beset by egoism

Hmmm... Well in here: http://www.totalwar.org/hosted/maltz/01_Oda/index.htm he is playing an oda campaign and keeps mentioning a "horde" that's where I got the idea of a horde in other campaigns. Perhaps spawning randomly.

I do not know if it was a mongol horde or whatever. I do know of the hojo/mongol campaign though.

    Lightbulb Re: The Horde

He refers to the Hojo horde. If you play an eastern clan, especially in the vanilla game, the west will eventually be conquered by the Hojo (or sometimes the Uesugi). At this point, they will have a large number of full stacks available to fight you. This phenomenon was known as the Hojo horde.

I looked at the link and that's not really horde and actually has less enemy AI stacks than an average endgame.

As Togakure said, it's a "feature". And they don't' spawn randomly. The AI trains units non-stop! I assume it happens in all the AI provinces, because the reinforcements comes in stacks too and the border provinces are literally flooded with unit-stacks who attack you every turn.

The Horde can happen to any faction, though it is most common that the Hojo takes up the mantle (apparently due to their lower building cost). This is due to the AI's ability of deficit spending. The units are not spontaneously generated. More like money lenders to the AI factions spontaneously generate. This was later removed (not sure if V1.12 does or only WE/MI does so).

I believe there is also a mod you can download (maybe by Barocca) in which you can play the Sengoku Jidai game and the mongol horde invades. Maybe that is in the downloads section here at the .ORG

I know what you mean. Barocca created a modification in which the Hojo had not conqueren Japan by the time the Mongols arrived. Another 'What if'-scenario. So as indivudial clan you need to keep off the mongols, but the other clans might be your enemies as well. I never played it sadly, but it seems like a nice campaign. I don't recall where I ever downloaded it, but it'll probably be available on the .org server as well.
