Has the game changed?

I reinstalled this game after quitting WoW after nearly 2 years... Well after a few hours got really back into the game.

Couple questions though.
It's been forever but I thought after capturing a provence(sp) that allows elephant training you were able to recruit them, along with other units that were region specific. I captured a zone with elephants and for the entire game I kept checking turn after turn never once did they pop up after building everythign possible. Nor did I see any different unit changes in any other non-starting provences(sp?).

Also, I remember after completing Imperial Campaign(full one) it unlocked all the other factions, is this still true? I mean without mods.

Thanks for all the help in advance sorry for all the questions, really confused about alot of things since I last played, and scouring all the threads is giving me a headache looking for something that prolly is really really old news. I am currently upgraded to 1.5 RTW, no mods, no expansion packs.

Hi ScooterMcGee

Elephants are faction specific so can only be recruited by certain factions i.e. Carthaginians. If you are lucky you may find rare mercenary elephants.

Completing the Imperial Campaign will unlock factions that you have personally destroyed. Other playable factions can be unlocked by a simple change to the files. In addition non-playable factions can be unlocked by a similar change to the files.

Hi Scooter Mcgee. I can't answer your specific questions. However, like you I returned to the game recently after about two years.
I can't say the specifics like I said, but I can assure you that through the patches this game is 100% more enjoyable to play! I don't mod my games, this is purely through the patches.
I loved the game before, now it's my favourite game of all time.
