Ok, in all his wisdom the minister of the justice department stated that if when 2/3 out of our population thinks sharia is the best thing ever they have the democratic right to shove it up our derrieres. Aye, democracy is the will of the majority, that is it's foundation. But what if the majority wants something that is undemocratic in essence, now we have an interesting situation. We think of us not slapping our wives around the house all the time as one of our great democratic achievements, but under the sharia all that goes down the drain. Under the sharia there is no equality of religion, also one of our achievements that makes us drip with democratic goodness, byebye it was fun. If this happens then democracy killed democracy, or better, it's multiculture that killed democracy. How is that for a Trojan horse?

Do not forget that in the bigger towns these numbers are kinda different, we can occosionaly still be found in the wild over there but you have to be very patient and bring good binoculars(although I wouldn't recommend doing so). 1. Athens did not do so badly.

2. They did not have anything like a true rule of the majority; there were "courts" and various institutions designed to limit the power of the majority.

3. Athens was generally led by its nose by the aristocrats, so true democracy never really appeared.

4. Democracy does not exist at all in any country in any way, shape or form. What you are angry at is the Republic, which is a perfectly legitimate system unitl the rotten, slimy weasels figure out how to manipulate it.

Yes it's a book, which he wrote as a minister of the justice department, and he won't take his statement back, as a minister of the justice department, even if he would have said it in smokesignals the message would still remain. And yes it's about how democracy should work, but what when democracy starts to work against itselve? And aren't we moving to other countries en masse by the way?

That's why the age old European traditions (transplanted to America) of the Rule of Law and Social Contract are so important. Besides, I don't think that modern, liberal societies will accept anything close to the backwards Sharia of the Middle East. Prosperity also fosters free governments; as long as a country is prosperous totalitarianism can't take hold. (Although I'm starting to worry about Europe )
