To sum up the 2 articles, 1 from the guardian and the other from the New York Times, They still discriminate on homosexuality, but if they've had a gender bender operation, they can be issued new birth certifacates and allowed to marry. Also stated is that there are higher cases of sexual reorientation surgey for 2 main facts, this allows people to pursue the sex of thier choice in a legal way and is the number 1 place to go in the muslim world as it is outlawed in every or just about every muslim country. They still are shunned socially in most cases but politically they have given them rights.
Both these articles are both over a year old and dont know if it made it into the same sex marriage debates or not as I'm not heavily involed in backroom. Just found it rather interesting as it is Iran that allowed this.
