Default Pope back but lands held by the rebels

Another interesting event in MTW. My pope was announced as resurfacing (after I killed him), but currently the two usual pope provinces are held by rebels! Anyone seen this before?

I wonder if they may be bribed by the pope when he resurfaces or better yet, the pope will have to fight his way back in (was hoping the BYZ would take these provinces for that same reason, but the BYZ gave up after a battle with me and another with the rebels who came after I left).

I know the pope influence is there as the Spanish started a crusade going to Livonia (which I attacked in Syria), but I can't remember if this crusade started before I dropped the pope or not.

Sounds like the Pope himself is in some other province -- you could try a matteosrtori to find him

A faction can resurface in any province it held at any time, I suppose the pope´s no exception. So maybe he just came back in some other place (if he had conquered lands beyond his original belongings, that is). Rebel provinces can join a re-emerging faction (under the mentoned condition, the re-emerging faction held the province in question at some time in the game), but they do not always. It´s odd that the Pope doesn´t re-emerge in Rome or the Papal States, though.

Pobably means the Pope owned these territories at some time. I've had games where the Pope re-emerged in Provence and Milan.

Not in Malta is he? I have seen this once. If not then look for him nearby such as Venice and Serbia.

He's not in Malta as the Sicilians are still there. Venice, Milan, Tuscany and Serbia are still held by me. I don't know where he is, just first time I have seen the papal lands and Rome held by rebels after the 'puppet' Pope was announced as returned (maybe he is in Avignon?).

Ok. Type ".matteosartori." without the quotes, to reveal the whole map. This should enable you to find the Pope's location. Typing it again disables it.

Thanks, I'll give that a try tomorrow.
