Seemes like he wanted to intimidate the reporter, talking about the reporter's family and people who want to kill his family.
It was like he admitted that unlawful torture is being used, but if found out, his lawyers are to blame since they said it's ok. Then again, noone should be upset because he tortures people only for the good of the americans.
I should focus more on body language, but his speech itself seemed to give away enough anyway. If only he had simply answered a bit more directly instead of evading all the time...

And I agree that the excuse of the enemy adjusting sounds silly.
