Total War Eras and Medieval

Having heard so much about Medieval Ive decided to order the Total War Eras pack. I already have Rome but it's still worth the money I think.

My question is, how easy will it be to go to Medieval after knowing only Rome? I have seen screenshots and the game looks frankly, ugly. But there are so many other great things Ive heard about it. So, is it worth it and will it be difficult to get into?

I was also someone who went and bought MTW after having played Rome. So I think I can give you some information.

The Graphics will need some getting used to, at first I was so turned off by them I simply auto resolved all the battles, and even put down the game for a while. Also, for your first game play the English. Not some civil-war prone faction Like the Holy Roman Empire - I had to learn this the hard way.

Once you're able to look past the graphics, and learn how to work with the left click select - and left click move- controls you're ready to start playing the game for what it is. You'll start appreciating how important it is to not simply attack everyone when you feel like it, but to make alliances and tech up carefully before attacking. You'll find out that all the things said concerning MTW are quite frankly all true, however, you'll have to see for yourself if you like MTW better than you did Rome.

At the moment I'm enjoying a Turkish early campaign using the MTW XL mod, and a RTRPE PBM campaign - so yes, you can combine the two.

And have a good time playing them both.

So which do you prefer now? Graphics really don't bother me. I just prefer the Medieval setting and Im hoping for some really intricate diplomacy, trade etc.

No intricate diplomacy really, just signing alliances/ceasefires/bribing. There is the work involved in marrying off Princesses and getting Princesses for your royal line as well. A few good marriages might result in alot of land for you if a faction collapses. Trade is also simplistic, you just need to build a network of ports and ships and have the trade buildings. The combat is good though, as is building your armies/provinces. You'll probably end up with harder fights then in RTW. Due to slightly better AI and more balanced stats, as well as the AI massing its troops and good generals much more easily because of the Risk-style campaign map.

That's a tough question. Rome soaked up tons of hours when I got my hands on it, even the un modded version. And now that I have the RTRPE edition installed I like it even more.

Strangely, however, I am, at the moment, playing the XL mod more than Rome - for no apparent reason. I'd have no trouble switching to Rome if I need to, for say, the PBM I'm currently playing.
