Thread: DDS Alpha problems - no transparency, dont know why!

Default DDS Alpha problems - no transparency, dont know why!

Im noob at RTW:BI modding, ive just started making my own skins for fun. I did a forum search for this and couldnt find an answer...

Heres my problem - if i edit and re-save any skin that has round shields, the alpha seems to mess up in-game, so that the corners of the square become fully visible. They are parts beyond the skin, pitch black usually, and it looks really ugly.

BUT this only happens to a few units at a time, usually at the edge of the formation, and only when the camera is pretty close. Its really annoying though...

I am using photoshop elements with the nvidia DDS format plugin. The alpha/mask channel thingy looks fine when i am editing the file, and still looks fine if i open it again. So im guessing that i should be fiddling with the save options? Ive just been using the plugin defaults, as ive no idea what the game wants best.

Well, thanks very much for any help...

You sould use DXT5 (interpoaleted alpha) and 2 textures, hope this helps.

Thanks very much Neon twilight... DXT5 it is! Havent tried it yet but im sure it will work, i came close today by trying some of the other save options.

Sorry i missed that thread Epistolary Richard, though i must say vercingetorix's answer seemed to get ignored there, no-one replied in confirmation, i would have overlooked it if i was browsing... thanks again Neon :)

Alas, great men are often unappreciated in their time.
